Calm Before the Storm
Maia had never really been one to lose her temper. She was a bitch, sure, and she could swear up and down at someone if they pushed her far enough, but she always prided herself on how well she could keep her cool. So the fact that she'd been losing it left and right for the past few weeks- well, it irked her. And the fact that it was mostly because of things she herself had started, that made it all a shit ton worse.
She just needed to cool down, to get a hold of herself and shove all the anger away. If anything, these past few weeks showed her that letting out her anger would bring her nothing but pain. With that thought in mind, she grabbed a full pack of cigarettes from her bedroom, and walked outside.
Maia's mind was racing, and she was trying hard to keep up with it all. She tried to focus on her breath, which was coming out in quick pants. She could see it in the cold, a white puff every time she exhaled. Maia had purposely left her coat at home, hoping that the cold would somehow shock the anger out of her. And why was she even mad, anyway? It's not like any of this had anything to do with her. Not even a little bit. She wondered why it was so hard for her to stay out off things that didn't concern her, why she always had to be the center of attention, even when it was bad attention.
Her mother had taken her to countless psychologists in her teen years, and they had all given the same diagnosis. There was a word for everything, every disease, every affliction, every thought, everything. And somehow, out of all those words, every doctor she saw used the same one to describe her. She hated it, she hated doctors and diagnoses and she hated how helpless all of it made her feel.
She let out a harsh breath and dug a cigarette out of the pack, lighting it up and taking a long drag. She walked slowly away from the apartments, out towards the lake, wanting to get as far away from the whole situation as possible. Of course, a few other situations had happened here, but no one seemed to be around.
She sat down on the bench, going through her smokes quickly and lighting up a new one even quicker. She was shaky, and she didn't like it. She hated being out of control, and lately she had been out of control a lot. Squeezing her eyes shut, she took a long drag from the cigarette, and rubbing her hands over her legs. What the hell had she been thinking, coming out here with no coat?
Maia stood up, tossing her cigarette into the snow, and stomping it out. She was about to turn around when she heard someone walking towards her. With a small sigh, she looked in the direction of the crunching snow. "Oh, it's just you."
