When Sirius smells amortentia for the first time most of the scents made sense.

New books for Remus. A burning fire for the Gryffindor common room. Black tea for his long talks with Minnie. Pine trees for the moons they had spent in the forbidden forest. But the scent of coriander makes him pause. The smell perplexed him, especially since he couldn’t figure out any connection in his life to coriander other than when the elves in the Hogwarts kitchen used it.

But later that year, it clicked when he returned home for the holidays. The same scent overwhelmed his nose and sunk comfortably into each part of his bones as Euphemia Potter enveloped him in a large warm hug at the front porch of the Potter home. He felt the tension release from his body as it relaxed fully for the first time in a while, his mind slowed, and he felt safe.
