#4 Organizational Savvy
I’ve just got the year end performance review discussion with me boss early this week. Among all the feedback, she told me that for a new comer, I’ve possessed a good skill, which is “organizational savvy”. This is indeed my first time to hear this term. The example was that I knew contacts in the organization, even when my boss didn’t, which helped in some cases.
One of the reason to have such skill is indeed due to the particular role I have. Be the lowest rank in the Brand Management function hierarchy but with the highest expectation, an ABM (assistant/associate brand manager) is expected to be the one who knows about the business the most (even more than her boss) and does all the operational work for the brand. Because of that nature, you tend to work with multifunctional team with people from all other functions that your boss may not even know about. You will need to navigate around and find contact, from person A to person B and finally person Z who is the right contact. Some time it’s crucial, especially at the execution phase, when you really need to get things done asap!
Who knows that it indeeds will be such a useful skill some time ;) so be proactive, start with someone and get to know your organization.
