The land of the dead. Those words ring in his ears while his expression twists into a mixture of shock and awe. A hand presses to his chest and then his other arm, feeling that he was still here in this present moment and that this simply wasn't some kind of harrowing nightmare. Everything remained intact and his fingers go limp by his side. A thousand questions rush through his mind, all fighting to be asked first.
"I'm dead." To hear it in his own voice didn’t make it any more real. He repeats it, quieter this time. Hazy memories of what happened before try to slot themselves back into place, but he can't concentrate. However, the images of his family manage to break through and suddenly his eyes are wide, several steps taken towards the other.
"My wife! Is she here? The children?" Everything else was blank in his head, making it difficult to recall how he had ended up here in the first place. A feeling of great uneasiness settles in the pit of his stomach – did he even have a stomach now? – and he has to quickly stop himself from shaking the woman's shoulders for answers. He spins around, searching the faces of the others who were present. There was no sign of his beloved among them and that sensation within him begins to spread, the desperation and anxiety growing with each passing second.
