I didn't really understand the importance of the "representation matters" theme until i grew up and didn't find myself in any piece of art (modern or ancient), literature, film, any media piece whatsoever. Not being able to identify with anyone that's ever existed physically or spiritually, brings a feeling i can only describe as cosmic solitude; but even that isn't accurate enough, because even the sun sees the other stars shining, and the earth and venus have danced around the sun for all eternity. Realizing that i am probably the only one who has ever been like me, is simultaneously flattering and depressing. It's good to be special, but it's not good to be unique. To pretend i am unique, is also arrogant. I will probably not leave a footprint on this world bigger than this post, so maybe those like me didn't either. And that, is depressing.
