Auden returned from his brother's study to find his bedroom empty. The large window beside his bed was wide open, letting in the warm night breeze. He poked his head out.
"Here you are." He said, finding his partner Tainu perched on the ledge, no more than two feet wide that ran along the side of the house.
"Here I am." Tai smiled back at him as he climbed out the window to join him. The sky held onto the last remaining colors of the setting sun, outlining the roofs of the town.
"For anyone else I would be concerned about the drop." Auden said after a bit of quiet. He wasn't deathly afraid of heights, but the two story drop into the courtyard made him nervous. Tai simply glanced down and huffed a laugh, so used to hopping across rooftops and scaling buildings.
Tai's gaze wandered back up to the sky, seemingly lost as the stars slowly blinked into existence. He closed his eyes, relishing a breeze that blew by. Auden gently touched his shoulder, feeling a twinge of guilt as he jumped slightly. "Alright?"
"Yes... Yes, it just-" Caught out of his reverie, Tai avoided his gaze. "It feels really nice out here... I'm just grateful." Auden hummed in response, glancing down. Tai's hand rested between them, the side of it red with newly healed skin.
He hated to imagine what would have happened if he hadn't wretched his hands free of the manacles, if Auden hadn't gotten to him in time. Most likely tortured for information, or back to killing for Xiren.
Auden took Tai's hand, carefully curling his fingers around it. He ghosted a kiss to the newly healed scar, hearing Tai's quiet breath. "I'm grateful too."
