Condescending Anti-Communist Ignorance
I find it pretty ironic and condescending that people say stuff like, "If you don't understand the other side of the argument, you don't understand your side of the argument" but at the same time call communism "evil" and don't actually pay attention to the other argument. They assume the evil of communism has been proven and that the capitalist-endorsed sources are correct, yet often times when these people are asked to explain why this is true, they claim there is no debate to be had. Or throw you articles/documentaries from The New York Times, BBC, and the like. Consuming that information isn't conclusive (and if you think it is you have strong confirmation bias). Furthermore, it in NO WAY counts as understanding the other argument. Neither does assuming communists think socialist countries were perfect. You actually have to listen to communists if you want a full understanding of communism. If you want to learn about Islam, do you only ask Christians?
It's only fair to admit I haven't authoritatively settled every argument against socialism/communism, but how can someone completely adhere themselves to capitalist ideology if they haven't held their beliefs to scrutiny? It's a double standard. People do this because critical thinking isn't required to understand the basics of capitalism. We live under capitalism, so most people know it's about working for someone who pays you a wage and collects the profit. To understand socialism/communism, critical thinking is required, because it goes against what you've learned. It's like there's some expectation that in order for someone's even barely positive statements about socialism (what most people are actually referring to when they say "communism"), to be seriously considered, they have to be an expert with a degree in PoliSci or history, yet people who support capitalism can be really ignorant of their own system and are taken seriously, unlike those who have investigated it for themselves and dare to criticize it.
