My joy when I woke up and saw the 2022 Poster for the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association Country Fair was overwhelming….Tears were shed. Ravens and Blackberries… two of my favorite things and memories past and present. This is in my mind the best of the fairs in all the land….a real country fair, teaching all of the things that we need to be learning now to survive and THRIVE in the coming decades of climate upheaval. Real farm animals…Heirloom breeds , Heirloom Seeds….and the food ? Well it’s Maine so what would you expect? Artisanal cheeses, fresh seafood, amazing vegetables, delicious juices ciders and meads… not a deep fried Twinkie in sight. The educational programming is insanely good. They haven’t been able to really hold this fair in two years , they were able to do some wonderful virtual programming but it’s not the same as being there and talking with a gentleman that can look at an apple you being him, taste it and tell you what kind it is and how old it is. The @mofga fair has ruined me for all others… everything else looks like a trip to Disneyland in comparison. Not that they’re not fun… but this is the real thing.
