Covetousness is the oldest form of idolatry, since it causes us to turn to acquiring wealth in order to feel fulfillment, when that feeling is meant to come from God alone.
We see this since the very beginning of time in the Garden of Eden. The enemy deceives Eve into thinking that she needs the fruit of the forbidden tree in order to be content; that she needs to become like God in order to feel fulfillment.
This deception cost both Adam and Eve want competent they had, and doomed all of creation to the curse of sin and death.
Covetousness will do the same for you. If you always desire something to make you happy, you’ll never have enough. If you consistently turn to possessions and wealth to find purpose, then you’re on a fools errand.
There’s a reason that we ever find fulfillment in this world alone; that we always end up asking “what’s next”? Because we were never meant to be filled anything except God Himself.
The reason we can’t find fulfillment here is because we were never meant to. Our fulfillment and contentment comes from God Himself. We were crafted from the ground up to be satisfied only in Him. Everything else will fail us in this endeavor because they aren’t God.
It’s like putting a square peg in a round hole, it just won’t work.
Until you find fulfillment in the Lord, you will always wander from one thing to next, hoping it’ll finally fill you. Take it from someone who’s experienced this first hand, it’s best to find your purpose in the Lord. He’s the only place you can look where it’ll be found.
God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️
