Only If It's been a long time since I finished a game and sat there smiling as I recounted everything that led up to that final moment. Only If is a very straightforward, non hand-holding, adventure game that can only be described as a combination of the mind-bending of The Stanley Parable, with the lab rat level crawling of Valve's Portal. You play as Anthony, who passes out at a frat party and wakes up in a twisted reality that forces him through a series of strange situations backed by a vague prose. You'll complete a system of reality-distorting puzzles as a seemingly crazed man barks orders at you while he plays the overlord. Only If is free to play on Gamejolt or Steam. This game is another example of next generation thinking in the video game industry, and its subtle presence is a hidden footpath that leads us to a more evolved game conceptualization process. Creability's Only If is a piece of the framework that is the threshold of the encroaching generation of design, harnessed by the forward thinking developers of today.
"Only if is a short game about your typical millienal person, it both insults and encourages this generation's mindset....
It is a short surreal adventure puzzle game. The game's mechanics are experimental and are driven to defy the logic of '[w]hat you see is what you get'."
Download and play Only If here!
And now, the final episode of Only if! The White Pawn ending anway. Join Anthony and I as we solve this final puzzle in hopes of discovering the truth...but will we like what we hear? Let's Play!
Another episode of Only if is here, and it seems the tables have turned for Anthony and Vinny (if only for a moment)..(I think).
We're back for another episode of Only if! Today, we walk through the park, talk to a clock (again) and play the slots! Seriously, anything can happen in this game.
Only If I knew what the fuck I was doing in this game. But seriously, I read reviews of of this indie game Only If attempting to mess with every preconception of what video games are supposed to do (I suppose that's the only way to get away with not having a tutorial), and it has throughly messed me up. I got to the end credits, but the game didn't end there, also I think I skipped ahead to the ending due to the continue option on the main screen being vague at best. Maybe that wasn't a part i would run into in the main story line, which is a real possibility, and has pretty much ensured I'm gonna make play this through to the end. Despite railroaded choices the game is impossibly un-linear as I've experienced it, and I assume leaving the game when I'm stuck and starting over might actually be a legitimate mechanic in this game. And if the reality-bending non-sense of the in game experience wasn't enough, I was so engaged in the weirdness, what felt like 20 minutes of play turned into an hour and a half. This game is all over the place, and I'll probably comment more on it when I finish it, a goal I have no bearing on how close to it I currently am. I would think it's safe to say that this game is not for everyone, but I recommend you check it out if you enjoy a good metagame. Even if you don't, the voice acting is pretty good. The creator of the this game is Creability, a single developer in Dubai. There was more than one person working on the game, but it's a pretty impressive game for a one-man show to think of and execute. I'm staying hopeful that I'll see more of him in the future, and that this game turns out to be something impressive.
