Believe. Inspire. Achieve.

This week you will see a new theme emerge for Buffalo State College: Believe. Inspire. Achieve.

In some ways, this theme presents the exact arc of a Buffalo State experience. It lays clearly the path that all faculty or staff members, students, and administrators wish for themselves. It presents a direction for us all to follow, a goal to seek, and a roadmap that we can traverse as we move forward toward excellence.

May each and every member of the Buffalo State community truly believe in his or her own abilities and talents to meet and exceed expectations. To maximize your abilities, you must first believe in your power for mastery. Whether it is the set of classes before you, a class that has proved difficult in the past, your ability to teach a challenging new curriculum, or your desire to write that definitive article or to solve the technological or budgetary problem in front of you, you must believe in yourself. If you find one day you are experiencing doubt or your resolve is faltering, turn to others to augment your belief in yourself and to remind yourself of your capabilities.

Let the knowledge that you can succeed inspire you to master your goals. Inspiration provides the energy, the passion, and the persistence to keep moving toward your stated goals. Sometimes you need to be inspired to deepen your knowledge, to learn a new skill that will help you succeed, or to dare to leap into unknown territory. Be inspired to do what is needed to reach and exceed your personal and professional goals. You might be inspired to write your best work to date, to solve that mathematical or engineering question with the creative inspiration of those you admire, or to see past the trees to the true answer you seek. Allow the inspiration you gain to permit you to do what was yesterday unimaginable but today is within your grasp.

Achievement is both a destiny and a stop along the road. May you perform at levels that not only allow you to succeed in your current goals but also awaken new goals. For the students who complete an amazing semester, you can now move toward completion and additional lifelong learning. For professionals, the achievement of today will allow you to gain recognition and give more to your department, your discipline, your college, and the community around you.

May this theme be a recursive three-act play as we continue to believe in and inspire individual and collective achievement in ways that will continue to benefit the growth, development, and accomplishment of each of us, our Buffalo State community, and every community we touch. I ask all members of our Buffalo State College community to believe, inspire, and achieve and to cultivate these aspirations in everyone within your sphere.
