Croods - Headcanon

Headcanon that Guy learned Punch Monkey because he was lonely out in the wild for so long, he had barely any human contact and when he did people labeled him as a weird misfit that didn’t belong. It didn’t help Guy came into camps declaring The End was coming and nobody would believe him. So he picked up the language when he hung around a troop of them for awhile, of course he quickly regretted it once he realized just how painful it was. Least it provided a good distraction and some conversation for awhile.

Bonus: Guy is fluent in several animal languages [which is how he can communicate with Belt so well], and to Guy’s surprise so is Gran after she picked up Wigasus. Also when Guy says Belt is a conversationalist, he means it. Belt often was used to communicate with other animals and helped teach Guy how to understand animal speak. Belt just has natural charisma.

Croods - Headcanons

Headcanon that the Bettermans and Guy's family came from the same tribe. Guy's family though were nomadic and left eventually when the first signs of The End were coming. The Bettermans survived despite staying behind and on their journey to find a new home, were unfortunate enough to discover the remains of Guy's mom and dad. The entire experience was traumatizing enough that it inspired them there must be a better way to live than survival of the fittest out here. Their tribe lived by the seaside, hence why Guy has his seashell necklace and how the idea of a shellphone came to be.

Bonus: The Bettermans used to wear stripes like Guy did since it was a tradition in the tribe, they stopped since it was a reminder of the painful past and living a primitive lifestyle. The stripes also have several meanings in terms of status, couples tend to have the stripe around their legs near the thigh area or just below it. The more stripes, the more experienced the person is as a member of the clan/aged. Leaders have the most dynamic complex patterns, including other designs like hand prints.

Guy in “A New Age” has two new stripes on his shoulders he added after surviving The End.

Croods - Headcanons

Headcanon that though Eep and Guy are still living on the farm with the Bettermans and the rest of the Croods, the couple do disappear for a few days on occasion to go explore/adventure around the area. They never go far enough that they’re considered nomadic or away from the farm for long. Sometimes they’ll bring Dawn along with them on their little misadventures beyond the property.

Bonus: Eep and Dawn sometimes do this too without Guy for some good ol’ girl time alone.

Croods - Headcanon

Headcanon that cave people like the Croods don’t kiss, their idea of showing affection tends to be through touch such as hugging, rubbing up/cuddling against those they like or touching faces/foreheads together. The one considered most intimate is forehead touches, which typically is reserved between spouses or their children/family.

People like Guy and the Bettermans however do kiss. Imagining Eep going in for the forehead/nose boop and Guy leaning in for a kiss, and instead just causing confusion lel Eep and Guy trade/share each other's ‘cultures’ after becoming romantically involved.

Croods - Headcanon

Headcanon that arranged marriages were commonplace in the Croods era. It was never a guarantee you would survive long enough to meet someone on your own/have children, so it was important to try securing a lineage. Having a family and spouse was considered important to survival, a strong clan. Gran was traded off after being taken away from the Thunder Sisters by her father’s tribe when they finally tracked down where she’d ran off to. Afterwards she met her first lover that her father killed before sending her off to wed Ugga’s dad [Gonna call him Gramp], who was a brute of a man that Gran refused let walk all over her. Gramp often tried draining the fight out of her but Gran never cowed into submission, their marriage was a stormy, harsh one. [Bonus: Ugga was the result of her love affair with her first love but Gramp raised her, he was soft for Ugga despite the girl not being his]

Hope and Phil were betrothed and grew up together, luckily for them they did eventually fall in love but their marriage became strained once they founded their little paradise post!losing Guy’s family. [They do recover though once the Croods come along] This is why they thought pushing Dawn and Guy together wasn’t much of a problem, as it was a concept they knew about. Guy’s parents and Ugga/Grug though were a case of meet and court like any other couple you see, so true love that blossomed over time. I like thinking Grug and Ugga were childhood sweethearts though, with Grug having a huge crush and Ugga being oblivious to it with Gran steaming in the background.

Croods - Headcanons

I remember somewhere mentioning there was a sort of cultural signifiance to Hope and Dawn’s braids. That being when Dawn came of age she would “earn” her second braid like Hope has. So this got me thinking about what life could have been like in the tribe [I’m going to assume Guy and the Bettermans came from the same place in order to be neighbors] that they originated from before The End separated the two families.

What if the women of the tribe used braids a coming of age status, so it was a common sight to see ladies with either one braid if they were young girls/hadn’t proven themselves yet and women who had both to show they earned it/came of age, this would also mean they would be allowed to be married and have bigger duties in the tribe.

Men however showed cultural status in the tribe by the length of their hair in a pony tail. Guy. Phil [kind of] and Guy’s dad all have a pony tail, and Guy’s dad seems to be the longest and judging by Phil’s hair, his might be pretty long as well. Like the stripes [however these are for both genders], hair shows symbolism in a boy becoming a man/their experience as a hunter, warrior and provider to his family.

Just a thought I had about maybe the signifiance of hair, especially when in media it can mean many things.

Croods - Headcanon

Headcanon that Eep and Guy eventually go on to have five children together. Birth control wasn’t something wide spread in the era of the Croodacous Period just yet. The children were all born pretty close together, unlike Eep who had a huge age gap between Sandy and Thunk. Guy and Eep are pretty easy going parents, though Guy tends to be the worrier of the two from his experience with the tar pits/practically raising himself. He’s nowhere near neurotic Grug or Phil levels of protective however, Eep also understands limits too.

Bonus: Ironically enough, Eep and Guy couldn’t seem to conceive for a while when they did actually want to try for their first child. Her mother Ugga had fertilely issues that were genetic, considering the age differences between Eep and her younger siblings [Srsly, 10 years between Eep and Thunk!]

Croods - Headcanon - Kind of

Sloths in captivity can live as long as 40 years [in the wild its about 20 years], the world’s oldest sloth was actually 50. Considering Belt is a fictional species of sloth, he could even live longer than that for creativity liberty. Regardless, Guy and Belt will defs be lifelong companions until death do they part,
