. Magazine issue #02 Italy OUT! Location | Whampoa Garden, Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong . Whampoa Garden is considered one of the largest private housing estates in Hong Kong. It consist of 12 buildings where 10 are mixed use residential/commercial buildings and the remaining 2 are for commercial use only. The urban morphology before the 80s were typically square-shaped towers, but from the 80s one started to replace these with cross-shaped towers. The Whampoa Garden was built in such a cross-shaped way (as seen in the Hung Hom plan from the 90s) and has incorporated some urban design concepts from the Garden City movement. The buildings were completed in 1991 and have about 10,500 flats and a total of 88 sixteen-story residential high-rise towers. If you are wondering what the boat is used for, it is a shopping centre.
