Why Gym On Ice Training?
Why use the GYM ON ICE? It is an excellent question and one that can be answered with the development of technical skills related to hockey. The equipment training dates back to the 1970’s started by a superior Russian skating and hockey trainer by the name of Dr. Smushkin.
The primary focus is for any skater to have better control of their body as well as mastering the three edges on each skate. The better the body control, the better the hockey player. Proven results.
The Gym On Ice consists of three training pieces:
Carousel: Creates centrifugal forces that the skater must resist. Assist in building balance and edge control. Also, develops the coordination, rhythm and an ability to use the upper body for additional acceleration.
Springboard: Develops advanced on-ice body coordination and muscular control. On the landing, in order to maintain balance the skater must lock their muscles using their strength.
Parallel Bars: Develops the flexibility of the player’s skeletal system and elasticity of their muscles. As the player skates under the bars, the skater learns to stay closer to the ice and thus acquires a proper hockey posture.
Working with all 3 pieces of equipment, the player also improves their dexterity as drills can be done with the stick.
Better body control, stronger balance, increased coordination and agility equals an ALPHA ELITE hockey player. We dare you to take the Crouchy Alpha Academy challenge!
