all those frankenstan/ ghost stan AUs where the axolotl is there.... makes even more sense when you think abt the aztec god Xolotl (who axolotls were named after)

Xolotl is the god of twins, death, deformities... AND leads souls to the afterlife. (apparently thats called a psychopomp?) (xolotl also has other stuff going on too but i didnt wanna list it all)

soo.. if the axolotl is the. xolotl of the gravity falls verse. they would totally be talking to stan as a ghost. AND since the axolotl is all about giving second chances (look at the theraprism) its not surprising they let stan come back.
