I am currently working a bit on the lore of devils in my setting, since Herr is a devil.
And something I find quite interesting is how devils are always portrayed as extremely hedonistic and obsessed with humanly pleasures like sex. And I would like to offer a different view of devils.
Devils of course are not treated like humans in most storytelling and therefore often don't get the nuance and the depth a human would get, they are portrayed as evil incarnate, simple evil and nothing more.
But imagine entering afterlife as someone deemed so evil to enter the hells, people that end up here are not just simply evil people, they were broken and fucked up, no introspection, no hint of therapy in their life.
Hell is simply hell just by the mentally fucked people that end up there, and the hierarchies formed by who can step harder onto other peoples rights. If you are weak inside you have to make other people even weaker, that is the root of evil.
Especially with the lawfulness attributed to devils in traditional forgotten realms lore, to me all those hedonistic pleasures seem more out of desperation to me. To hide from their own feelings, no real pleasure, a routined act.
I don't believe incubi and succubi enjoy sex, for them its a frantic hunt for a prey, those that mastered it and learned to hide their doubts and shame survive.
To immortals simple pleasures like gluttony are a fleeting thing in the everlasting horrors around them.
