Can Jemma cook?

yes !!  she can cook, and she’s actually very good at it. when she was younger, she didn’t really have to cook, as she grew up in a home that was very well off, and they had people who took care of that kind of thing for them, but little jemma would slip into the kitchens to watch when she could, because it interested her. when she went to university at age 12, she had to learn how to make more things for herself, because she didn’t like having to be dependent on others ( read: her older brother, nick, who was at oxford at the same time as her ), and the older she got, the more complicated things she would attempt, until she was quite adept and could make a great many things of varying complexity, which came in handy when she moved to the states by herself at 17, where she had no friends or family, and had to fend for herself. it further came in handy when she met fitz ( who, i personally headcanon, can’t really cook that fantastically beyond simpler things and some scottish dishes that he learned from his mum. )

one of the biggest influences on her cooking style was her favorite grandmother, camilla, who they would often visit at their home in italy, and this, and a few members of the kitchen staff who helped to teach jemma how to cook, along with jemma’s absolute love of italian food. she can cook a large variety of different things, but italian is her comfort food and generally what she’ll fall back on if she can’t think of anything else or just wants something familiar. it’s also her grandmother’s brownie recipe that she will always use, every single time.

but yeah, long story short ?  if you want good food, have jemma cook for you, it’ll be an a+ experience.
