CSG 180-200 - Week 12

Unfortunately, Tuesday I got some incredibly bad news and had to dip out of the meeting to go home and handle it. It was really hard on me, and the rest of the week has been looking up, but Tues-Wed were pretty rough on me. Thankfully, by today I'm feeling a bit better about everything and I'm trying to just focus on work to get away from the ick. Taking some time to myself really helped. I am uploading the refined sprites as I get them done, and will be sketches out the remainder of the checklists (added to Trello), unless directed to work on other assets. According to Madison, I should be getting the refined sprites done, so I think my process will be something like this until I finish them all: Sketch Sprite > Upload WIP Sprite > Finish Sprite > Upload Finished Sprite

CSG 180-200 - Week 11

Overall, I have been working on finishing the rendering of those end screens requested by Evan, and they should be done by this week. I'm having a lot more fun taking my time with this, so I'm planning to use the time over spring break to get these rendered so they look nice and match all the other assets I have submitted so far. Thankfully, I also heard back from Madison about the dialogue tool; she combed through all her dialogue and thought about which sprites would work best for each scene, and then tallied them into a collective list of sprites we'd need to convey their conversations. Having worked on projects with Madison before, I'm confident that her list was comprehensive, and I trust her narrative skills with my life.

Overall, very excited for the next few weeks!

CSG 180-200 - Week 10

Week 10, I know most of us were kinda running like headless chickens, but I think we're okay in terms of the project. I continued working on some sketches in the meantime, as I was running out of things to busy myself with that were productive, but thankfully a team member reached out to me to get some art for the project.

I was asked to make some art for the game over screens, and he described what he was looking for, so thankfully I was able to start. I got them in the second pass rough sketch phase, and colored them so that they could be used as placeholders for the build. I'll continue to render them out.

CSG 180-200 - Week 09

This week, I was able to get the basic sprites uploaded of the mother, the male protagonist, and the Auditor, but they weren't too detailed and were just rough sketches with backgrounds to slap into the build. I realized that, due to being sick, I hadn't been able to hear back from the team in terms of feedback. I didn't want to make sprites that weren't going to be used, so instead of doing useless work, I decided to see how these sprites worked in the build and to make sure they were functional with their layouts before I went forward with any more. I will be cleaning up and editing the sprites once I hear back, or if there are changes to the plan, then I can pivot. I have gotten them all uploaded to the drive, and I went ahead and organized them into folders by character and by the order they are shown, so that they're easier to access. I will replace these files with the finalized ones in the future. In between this, I have also been working on some placeholder sketches to make sure I'm still drawing on-model with the turnarounds I made earlier in the semester.

CSG 180-200 - Week 08

Image: Since I was sick this week and wasn't able to work much, here is an image of my desk after I de-plagued it and reorganized it a bit. Plenty of sanitizing wipes and lemon-scented cleaner was used.

As the gods decided it would be fun to poke at me, I unfortunately got sick from something my roommate caught from work, so I wasn't able to work much. I had full body aches and sniffles, sinus headaches, basically the works. It was awful. On the bright side, near the end of the week I was able to plan accordingly my next actions, which I think will be working further on the sprites to get more workable assets into the build.

CSG 180-200 - Week 07

This week, I got some more ships out of the way based off the minion designs that I made before; I've also been trying to find and export the illustration I did on Marissa's Ipad, but it's gone MIA and I'm pretty upset about it. I also couldn't find the file for the sprites, but I had the screenshot from a few weeks back, so those got turned into some beta sprites for Nico. I also went ahead and added sprites of the Mother in two different formats (one is a generic standing sprite, the other is more of a call sprite).

Currently waiting to hear back when the build is up and running; until then, I will be working on doodling some more expressions / beta sprites for the other characters. I'm looking to see if I can somehow recover or find that illustration for the menu, as well.

CSG-180-200 - Week 05

Week 05 was a bit of a slower week for me, as I'm prepping for the next game jam I am working on, as well as have an event at the end of next month, so time is all over the place right now and I have to plan extremely tightly.

That being said, our P.O. was out from the call this week, and I worked with what information I was given. I came up with some more generic ship designs, with the feedback given by the team being that the favorites were the diamond, the crown, and the shuriken. I will be refining them and getting them into the Drive this weekend, with multiple color options as well as a black and white version that can be edited in Unity.

Afterward, I believe our next step will be creating sprites for the cutscenes; I have not been involved in that half of the project yet, but I'm excited to see what they came up with, as I have a lot of faith in that area of the team. They've never disappointed!

CSG-180-200 - Week 04

Since the Game Jam, I've been a little exhausted this week from the entirely full schedule I had previous. Following this, I did get quite a few tasks out of the meeting to prepare for next week, but the actually Tuesday was used to concept and create the above Mothership asset. It was also nice to get back into the swing of making assets, since that's my main focus at this point in time. Going forward, I need to work on making some more spaceships with Mattea, as well as I had heard some discussions about some background assets, but as far as I am aware, there is nothing set in stone yet. I will be asking over the weekend if they had anything they'd particularly want me to concept, so that way I can bring something more to the table on Tuesday.
