Ojiro has the potential to be anywhere from a mild yandere to a full-blown kidnap you in broad daylight and never let you go yandere.
He would never, ever harm you though.
Maybe anyone that gets in your way/his way of being with you, but not you.
Picture this:
Ojiro is so used to being called ordinary and getting looked over, that if you compliment him on anything other than his tail’s strength, he’s going to get attached.
He is attention-starved.
Even if it’s only a passing compliment or two, it's too late. He's fallen for you.
He’s fallen for you, even if you hardly know he’s there.
It starts off harmlessly enough.
He discovers your favourite chocolates from your friends and gifts them to you on White Day -- even if you didn’t give him anything on Valentines.
He starts carrying extra equipment just in case you forget yours.
He offers to help you study for any upcoming tests (despite how others see him, he’s smart and ranks highly in almost every test he takes).
He’s always there, giving you compliments and words of encouragement, willing you to do your best.
He starts living for your smiles and your thanks. He likes feeling appreciated, finally. He wants you to know he’s there for you, no matter what you need him for.
For a while, your friendship is enough.
You are his world and being close to you, talking to you, spending time with you is enough.
Don’t worry if you find a partner at this stage. Ojiro won’t do anything. He’s not the jealous type and wants you to be happy.
Ojiro’s attitude only changes if he finds out someone is bullying you or hurting you.
It will tear his heart in two. He needs to do something to protect your smile.
Things will start happening a lot faster if he finds you crying or injured.
He’ll get the person bullying you alone.
He’ll tell them to back off.
If the person apologises sincerely and truly leaves you alone then everything stays fine.
But if they don’t apologise? If they laugh? If they tell him it’s not his business, or even worse, they insult you?
Something inside Ojiro will break.
That person will never get the chance to harm you again.
And Ojiro won’t see anything wrong with it. His only concern is keeping you safe and happy, and if that means someone has to disappear from your life forever, then so be it.
But… after that first time, it becomes all too easy for Ojiro. The bullies and the people in your life who don’t treat you right are nothing more than obstacles in your path to happiness.
Obstacles he’s more than willing to remove for you.
He brushes off your concerns that “oh, I haven’t seen X in a while,” or “have you heard from Y?” by noting how happy you’ve been recently, or how you’ve been smiling a lot more.
It’s easy for him to get away with what he’s doing – for once, flying under the radar serves him well. Even as the murmur of abductions and killings circulate, the finger never points on him. The world begins to believe those people were simply spirited away.
His obsession with you grows and grows. Once all your enemies are gone, his sights turn towards your closer circle of friends, your family, your partner if you have one. He finds faults in them; reasons why they could be holding you down, or how they might harm you in future.
Soon, he realises no one is good enough for you.
But of course he’s there to hold you as your friends disappear from your life, one by one under mysterious circumstances. If you have one, your partner will be the first to go.
Ojiro reassures you that he will never, ever leave you like they have.
He spoils you rotten and does everything in his power to make you happy.
He thinks his heart might just give out when you ask to spend time with him, inviting him over to your place or to somewhere fun.
This is when the option of you getting a new partner disappears. He won’t let anyone get close enough to hurt you.
But over time, the closer you get to him, the more his paranoia and delusions grow. You aren’t safe. The world is evil and if he’s not careful, you’ll be taken from him and your smile will be gone forever.
He can’t let that happen.
After finding you crying one particularly tough time, he decides enough is enough.
He plans it out meticulously: the perfect day. He takes you on a date to your favourite place. Money and the time it takes to get there do not matter. He gives you the most perfect day. He enjoys every smile you make, every laugh and every single thing you say.
Then when it’s time to leave, Ojiro drives you home in the car. He stops off at a petrol station and gets you your favourite drink. He crushes sleeping pills into it. He smiles as you close your eyes, knowing that when you wake, you’ll finally be safe.
He won’t give anyone the chance to make you cry again.
Stealing you away from the rest of the world, he locks you away in an undisclosed, remote location, but nothing like a dark, dank basement. It’s a reasonably nice place. There’s natural light and it’s spacious – almost cosy.
The lie he tells your parents is that, overcome with grief from being abandoned by all your friends and feeling unloved by your family, you threw yourself into the ocean to finally be at peace. Ojiro did his best to stop you but you were determined.
For all intents and purposes, to your parents and the rest of the world, you are gone and your body is irretrievable.
Now he can protect you.
Now you will be completely safe.
The chain on your ankle is only there to make sure you won’t run away, until he knows you understand that it is safer here, where no one can harm you.
He continues to pamper you and spoil you, whether you want him to or not.
Though he cannot be with you all the time, needing to live his life so the world does not grow suspicious and come sniffing, he gives you plenty of things to keep you busy – books, games, arts and crafts.
Hopefully, through all his twisted ways and showers of affection, you have fallen in love with him – some time ago, if you’re lucky. It might make his twisted sense of devotion less psychotic. You might appreciate the things he does for you instead of being completely and utterly horrified and sick.
Because he believes you love him as much as he loves you.
He will not touch you in that way without permission. He will not force himself on you.
But if he finds you crying.
If you try to run away.
He will realise he isn’t trying hard enough to make you smile. He will keep you chained until he’s sure you know you’re safest with him. He will lie beside you, wiping away your tears, whispering sweet words of comfort, telling you how you saved him from a world of loneliness and how he’s here to do the same for you.
He is the only one who cares enough about your wellbeing to see your smile.
You don’t need anyone else in your life.
You won’t need anyone else, ever again.
