Greater #Roadrunner and #bison - day 20 of #birdtober2024 hosted by @aholmesartstudio .
Cuckootober Day 12 - Lesser roadrunner (Geococcyx velox)
What if we chibi-fied the American southwest's Greater roadrunner? And made it so so cute with big ole eyes and it was so cute and I loved it?
Cuckootober Day 3 - Lesser ground-cuckoo (Morococcyx erythropygus)
An arid-loving cuckoo from the Pacific slopes of central America.
Cuckootober day 16 - Rufous-vented ground-cuckoo (Neomorphus geoffroyi)
This ground-cuckoo often follows army ant swarms to catch prey fleeing from the ants!
Cuckootober Day 15 - Pallid cuckoo (Heteroscenes pallidus)
Sometimes placed in the Cacomantis genus, from the Greek κακομαντις (kakomantis) meaning "prophet of evil".
Cuckootober day 13 - Green malkoha (Ceuthmochares australis)
This and its sister species the blue malkoha used to be considered a single species which was called the yellowbill, for extremely self-evident reasons.
Cuckootober Day 6 - Violet cuckoo (Chrysococcyx xanthorhynchus)
A small cuckoo from southeast Asia, who parasitizes sunbirds and spiderhunters.
Cuckootober day 10 - White-eared bronze-cuckoo (Chrysococcyx meyerii)
A little cuckoo from New Guinea, we assume it must be brood parasitic like the other Chrysococcyx cuckoos but don't actually know anything about its breeding biology. We do know that it regularly participates in mixed-species foraging flocks when looking for food though, which is very cute.
