We were gone for a week, but here's what we were doing: vacationing! @culumacilinte and I spent a week with family out in Door County, on Lake Michigan, and I kind of hadn't realized how much I needed a vacation until I was actually on one. We beach walked, we swam and waded, we did beach bonfires and marshmallow roasting and s'mores, we came home with a box full of jams and jellies and pickles. Cully clambered and roamed and swam to their heart's content and came home with a bag of pretty rocks. I read murdery historical books and knitted a lot while watching the lake and came home with loads of gorgeous hand-painted yarn that I can't wait to use. We both played pirate-themed mini-golf and watched Shakespeare in the middle of the woods and hung out on a pontoon boat for a full day in the sun (not at the same time).

I would never want to live out in the middle of nowhere, but it's nice to visit it for a while.

Happy Birthday to my favorite person in the world, the most amazing person I know: @culumacilinte . This year has been so hard, but at every turn, you've shown yourself to be exactly as extraordinary as I know you are. Thank you for your strength and wisdom and compassion and bright, brilliant mind. Thank you for making my life more colorful, literally AND figuratively. Thanks for holding my hand and encouraging when I'm scared. Thank you for making me laugh, even when times are the worst, and for being there to hold me when even the laughing doesn't help; thank you for trusting me to do the same for you.

Hey, this happened a week ago today, but the vaccine + work combo knocked me on my ass, so I'm just getting around to posting these pictures now.

@culumacilinte and I are fully vaccinated! The process of actually getting into a place where we could get shots was extremely frustrating and poorly-handled! There were a lot of crying frustration/desperation breakdowns. However, thanks to a friend, we were able to finally get in, and the actual experience itself was incredibly good and life-affirming. The people who are on the ground vaccinating others, checking them in, doing logistics, helping people feel calm and cared for... yeah, humanity can be pretty great sometimes.

And now we'll be able to hug our families. We might actually be able to visit mine, after 2 years! I still can't fully process it! But it's a good kind of overwhelming!

@culumacilinte and I have adopted a large adult cat son, and he's perfect, and mostly he hides under the sofa or behind the bathtub right now because he's a shy, sweet boy, but we are super thrilled.

Pride Looks, for My First Pride™!

For complicated reasons, it ended up being a more low-key Pride weekend than either I or @culumacilinte originally planned, but we still were our fabulous selves and had a great time. It was powerful, being in the midst of that kind of love-fest, and I can't wait for next year already. 🏳️‍🌈💖🌈
