Y'all remember all the different "Water" - storm, sea, river, lake, etc. I had like 9 different bottles of different environmentally sourced waters at one point. What a vibe. Might start doing that again... It's basically internet folklore and internet folk magic

This is the book of Oberon, a working sorcerers grimoire from Elizabethan England.

A main part of my practice relies on old English folk magic, Bible magic and grimoire practices that were available here. This book represents a Cunning Man’s collection of excerpts from several different grimoires that had been compiled over time and used in a kind of modular fashion, depending on what was needed that day. It is packed full of amulets, charms, conjurations and rituals which reflect a lot of what the English tradition of magic was like at the time.

While I don’t think it is possible to practice like the cunning folk did, 500 odd years ago, I do think a very functional, modern day English magic practice can be put together using components and methods from these books. In fact this is how I have worked with this stuff for many years.

An unexpected Visit

Let me tell you about a time Black Phillip, The Folk devil, The Witch Father, Dyvil, however you see him fit, visited me unexpectedly.

I was on a date with a man, we decided to head to the woods to sight see, as you do.

We decided to sit upon a fallen tree, it’s sturdy bark. As done so, a finch sat on the branch beside me, looking at me in disparity. In curiosity as to why my attention is sought on another man other than himself.

What i didn’t know is i would be kissing this ‘date’ a few moments later… we’ll get to that soon.

At the moment i spotted this bird, my head was laying on the man, in comfort. The Folk Father was obviously displeased of him, sitting besides me in his featherly form staring at me in an almost disbelief look. He knew i didn’t love the man i was with, he saw i was wasting my time and love on him. Disappointed as he was, he disappeared, never seen again after that.

The moral of the story is, do not go into the woods where you do your general offerings for the spirits for a date! The father of spirits will not approve, instead he disapproved.

My deliveries today included this little gem by Peter Paddon. Peter wrote and podcasted about traditional witchcraft and the cunning path until his passing in 2014. His podcast has disappeared into the ether but for a time, it was an oasis of old school craft in a desert of new age banality.

I had hoped to find a specific transcript for a Yule pathworking he did that remains a favorite of mine, but alas, it isn’t included in this selection. (If anyone knows the pathworking and where I can find a transcript or the recording I would love to revisit it.)

Anyhow, there’s some very good material here and I heartily recommend this and any of Peter’s other work.

Easy luck spell

I use this one whenever my family gets together and we all play 21, a gambling game. I always bring this packet form this spell along.

Materials

Paper

Brown sugar (doesn’t matter if it’s dark brown sugar or light, the important part is that it has molasses)

Green pen

Nutmeg

Cinnamon

Any oil associated with luck, or the planets Jupiter or Venus

Remove all machine cut edges from the paper, tearing towards you. Write your full name and birthdate three times.

Turn the paper clockwise, and write “bring fast luck” three times. Turn clockwise again and repeat. Do this another 2 times. Once you are done, put the oil on the paper on the four corners and the middle. Then say aloud:

May this bring be great luck and success, may this bless me, and may I succeed. 

Then, put the sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon, all onto the paper while repating this phrase. Then fold it all up so no spices, sugars or oils will fall out (use more paper if needed, no need to pray over those papers).

And boom! Your done. You got yourself a luck packet. Carry it with you when you need to be extra lucky.
