Decorative Curry from Pokémon Sword and Shield
In this video, I teach you how to make a real-life version of Burger-Steak Curry from Pokemon Sword and Shield. You can make it indoors, but it tastes even better if you make it on the grill. Watch it in action here!
Burger Patties:
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 tsp plain gelatin, optional
2 TBL breadcrumbs
1/4 onion, grated
1 clove garlic, rough chop
Two pinches of salt
Pepper to taste
Curry aromatics:
1 scallion, minced (white and green, keep separate)
1 tsp garlic clove, minced
1 tsp ginger, minced
For curry:
1 TBL butter
1 block curry dex roux
1 cup chicken broth
1 tsp gravy booster
Rice, to serve
In a small food processor, place peanuts, breadcrumbs, onion, and garlic. Pulse until a paste forms. Place ground meat in a medium bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
Add the reserved paste and gelatin if you’re using it. Mix until mixture becomes a little sticky. Form into small patties and place in the fridge until ready to use.
I cook this over coals in a carbon steel pan. However, you can easily cook this inside on a stove.
Place your favorite frying pan over high heat. Add your ghee and allow it to get hot. Place your patties in the ghee and fry. Once juices start to rise to the top, carefully flip. Cook another minute or two then set aside on a clean plate.
Add your aromatics and cook for about a minute or until fragrant. Add chicken broth and curry dex roux. Bring to a simmer. Add gravy booster and salt and pepper to taste. Place reserved patties into the pan and cooke for another minute or two.
Serve hot over rice.
Could you please draw Spheal enjoying some decorative curry from sword/shield? Also, I love him!! :)

The Currydex company has begun developing curry recipes for Pokemon with unusual diets, such as Sableye and Trubbish.
Pokemon SwSh Curry Checklist
For those of you who are a lot more data-oriented/visual than the Pokemon Sword and Shield CurryDex allows, I made up a small checklist for myself that other people are more than welcome to use!
The checklist formats itself based on completion, filling in rows entirely when a recipe has been completed for all portion sizes, with unique coloring if you also get max rating on the dish. Dish ratings are colored similar to the in-game medals for easier visual identification, and each row is subtly colored according to flavor for the same reason:
There is also a second page on the checklist that tracks your total stats/progress in an easier-to-digest format, as well as what rewards are available based on your progress:
It’s not super fancy, but I figured since I made it for my own needs that other completionists might be able to use it too!
Here’s the link! Remember to File > Make A Copy to use it for yourself!
Trying to complete the IRL Pokemon Sword and Shield Currydex... Spicy Sausage Curry set to raise the friendship from the pokemon that live in our house!
The curry mechanic in Pokémon Sword and Shield has a few main parts.
Part 1: The flame. Can range is sizes from (a) embers, (b) small flame, (c) medium flame, and (d) large flame.
Part 2: Stirring. Depends on speed ranging from (a) too slow [identified by black smoke], (b) just fast enough [identified by no smoke or steam], and (c) perfect speed [identified by steam and no smoke.]
(Note: you may stir reasonably fast. You should be able to comfortably make 2 stick rotations per second. Going too fast will cause some spilling, but nothing that will seriously degrade the dish)
And part 3: Adding Heart. Can range from (a) too soon or too early. This is done by adding heart outside of green areas. (b) good. Identified by light green area. And (c) perfect. Identified by bright green area.
Classifications of curry are (a) base recipe, (b) spicy curry, (c) sour curry, (d) sweet curry, (e) bitter curry, and (f) dry curry.
Despite what some websites say, you do not need to match berries to the main ingredient. Each dish can be every flavor, (Example: Fried food curry, Sweet fried food curry, spicy fried food curry, etc.) except for Gigantamax Curry which cannot be a flavor.
Flavor is determined by the flavor of berries added in VS the amount of said flavor. For example 5 spicy berries VS 1 sweet berry = higher chance the curry will be spicy.
Rankings of curry are as follows:
Koffing (purple?) lowest tier
Wobbufet (iron) second lowest tier
Milcery (bronze) third best
Copperajah (silver) Second best
Charizard (gold) first best
In order to receive the highest possible ranking you must achieve (1) medium sized flame, (2) fast stir speed with minimal splashing, and (3) adding heart so that it lands in the bright green circle [note: from the time you press the A button to add heart it takes approximately 1 full second for it to be added to the curry. The best way to add heart at the right time is to press the A button when the shrinking ring is half way through the large green circle, if not a little after]
You will know you are doing everything right if you see sparkles coming up from the curry at all stages.
The highest rating a single player can receive is Copperajah. Charizard class can be easily gotten with 4 players cooking at a single camp and can be done with 2 players if everything goes right. This is most easily done at the camp site before Stow-on-Side village since there are 3 NPC’s at this camp.
The NPC’s at this campsite will always use Fried Food as the main ingredient, so this will only be able to get Charizard class for the fried food curries in the “CurryDex” (note: the base recipe cannot be Charizard class. Or rather, if it can be, it has not been successfully obtained yet)
The best method when playing single player at this campsite is to:
(A) press A as fast as possible to get flame to medium size as fast as possible. When this is achieved, stop pressing A. The NPC’s will still fan the flame, but it should not grow in size once you stop fanning. When done properly, it should have at least 3 “tics” where the Pokémon at the camp will rejoice at the smell.
(B) Stir as fast as possible. The NPC’s will stir at the same speed ensuring milcery class or better. Again, player stir speed does not matter, in so much as: the speed will only improve the dish, not degrade. PLEASE NOTE: although the speed itself does not degrade dish, if the rotations are not smooth and compleate it will start to splash. Although you may splash a few times per curry, splashing too much WILL degrade dish.
(C) Press A to add heart when shrinking ring is half way or more through the wide green ring. This will ensure your heart is added when the ring reaches the small green ring. NPC’s will add hearts at their own rate and cannot be altered. Although some may add their hearts sooner or after the green rings, it will not degrade dish, only improve. (NOTE: on VERY rare occasions, should all players add heart at the same time the hearts will fly towards the sky and merge into 1 large, crystalline heart. When this heart floats down into the curry it will explode upwards with sparkles. This is the BEST possible result when adding hearts. It’s very rare to do so with NPC’s but I CAN happen.)
When the dishes are served you can pre-determine the quality before ranking is assigned
Dish is served with black smoke puffs coming from dish. Player and Pokémon in first slot hate it but will accept their fate. (Koffing) heals Pokémon by 25%
Dish is served with no effects. Player and Pokémon in first slot eat slowly (Wobbufet) heals Pokémon by 50%
Dish is serves with small sparkles. Player and Pokémon in first slot eat a little flaster. (Milcery) completely heals Pokémon + removes status conditions
Dish is served with large, wide sparkles. Player and Pokémon in first slot eat very fast. Both are excited.(Copperajah) completely heals Pokémon + removes status conditions + restores PP
Dish is served with a lot of steam, accompanied with circular light effects. Player and Pokémon in first slot are surprised (noted by player putting hand on cheek with blush marks), followed by eating EXTREAMLY fast. (Charizard) completely heals Pokémon + removes status conditions + restores PP
Exp, points vary with ranking of dish
Further more. The better the dish is will add friendship to all Pokémon in party. While friendship and happiness are two different statistics, they are not mutually exclusive.
