In the Dark

Pansy had been following Draco for the better part of two weeks, taking on more than her fair share of evening rounds and, unexpectedly, winning friends with the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw prefects whose rounds she’d offered to take.

Her seeming altruism, however, was all in selfish pursuit of discovering whether or not Draco had been lying to her about finally making their relationship public. He’d promised to call her his girlfriend long before purchasing tickets for the Hogwart’s Express which would take them to their 6th Year at Hogwarts. But since arriving, the Slytherin prince had been, for the most part, largely absent. 

And Pansy was worried.

She knew he was in the secret room but she had no idea what he was doing. This was the eighth night she’d stood in the shadows, waiting for him to emerge. For weeks, her concern grew as Draco became thinner and the circles under his eyes darker. He was more irritable than ever and she’d found her nights standing sentinel had become her quiet thinking time. She’d carved out this time and space to calm herself from the worries for him. 

Tonight, however, there was something else in the air. 

Pansy could have sworn that earlier, right before she’d taken her familiar spot in the corner of the hallway, that she’d passed someone, or something, invisible standing next to the suit of armor just a few feet away. Her gaze had traveled between the wall and the armor for nearly ten minutes, waiting for..... something.

Dubitatio

n. doubt, hesitation, wavering. 

         days come, and they go, and they blend all together until finally, silver blue find their way staring at the last place he remembers being before it all became a blur.  it comes back in waves, chest tight and throat threatening to constrict him of his breath.  he has to remember to breathe, because it’s not how it was seven months ago. nothing will ever be the same. 

        but that doesn’t stop the memories that flash into his head.  that churn his stomach into a pit and makes him physically ill, long and slender fingers burying into the sleeves of his house robes. his friends, his classmates ... death eaters ... family ... dead. 

       for a lost cause, if that. 

       he takes a deep breath, reminds himself again that this is all over, and walks towards the main corridor for the first day back to school. the first year students see no trace of the war this school has dealt with.  they don’t remember every crack and fallen pillar, and the blood ... all the blood.  they smile and they laugh and he catches sight of one, a girl with blond hair. she reminds him of himself, only eight years ago.  how he misses how it was back then. 

         inside he starts to see familiar faces.  professors nodding to the students and welcoming them back.  they crowd around and they coo at how great hogwarts is, and without paying much attention draco bumps into someone and meets the gaze of the chosen one himself.

       it’s instinct, really. but there isn’t ... malice in his voice.  if anything it almost sounds like relief, breathy and quiet.  he fixes his robes out of habit, something to do with his hands.  because while they wouldn’t be considered friends in the sense of the GOLDEN TRIO, it’s been a long way from where they were in previous years.  he’s thankful for the work harry had done for his parents sentencing, even if he’s never really said it yet.

Pansy:

I am always up for Slytherin girl friendship shenanigans. I refuse to believe that they were nothing but catty and bitchy to each other. Pansy may be vicious towards Hermione, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t friends with her Slytherin peers. Give me Theo and Pansy having fun together and supporting each other!

That said, I would love to see them butt heads as well. Nobody gets along all the time, and Theo and Pansy have very different approaches when it comes to their positions within Hogwarts. Friction is inevitable.

Cho:

I mean, any interaction between them post-GoF is going to be complicated by the fact that Theo knows full well that Voldemort murdered Cho’s boyfriend, regardless of what the Daily Prophet says. But Theo also thinks that what Hermione did to Marietta was obscenely out of line, so maybe she approaches Cho to quietly offer some special skin cream or something for Marietta? I dunno, I’m just spitballing here.

Anyway, Theo has no personal grudge against Cho, so I don’t think their interactions would automatically be hostile.

Harry:

Post-war reckonings! What are Harry’s feelings towards the families of the Death Eaters who were determined to torture him and see him dead? What are Theo’s feelings towards the guy whom her father tried to murder and who ultimately brought down the Dark Lord, landing Theo’s father in Azkaban for the rest of his life? Can they put all that behind them and interact like normal people?

Thestrals! Theo, Neville, and Harry are the only people in their class who can see Thestrals. Does this mean anything for them?

I know that Theo has never mocked Harry for his parents’ deaths, because she, too, lost a parent when she was a child. It’s not funny, no matter what Draco might think.

Actually, I’m also fascinated by the fact that, when Harry & Co. come across the Death Eater babies discussing his Quibbler interview in OotP, Hermione has to tell Harry Theo’s name. Clearly Theo has never gone out of her way to antagonize Harry, otherwise Harry would recognize her as one of Draco or Pansy’s cronies, at the very least.

Being forced to partner up for a school project might be interesting!

We know from canon that Leontius Nott was one of the earliest Death Eaters, probably introduced to Tom Riddle by his old school friend Horace Slughorn. How did that recruitment happen?

What made Leontius so devoted to Voldemort, apart from their shared belief in blood supremacy? He followed Voldemort for approximately 35 years, only showing disloyalty once (after Voldemort’s first defeat) in an effort to keep himself out of Azkaban.

What sort of things did Leontius do for Voldemort? Was he simply a foot soldier? Did he experiment with Dark magic? What specific things made him useful to the Dark Lord?

And of course I’m always here for a Voldemort-wins-the-first-war AU!

My Opinion on;

Character in general: I love Harry! His smart mouth is one of my favorite things about him but the depth of how much he’s went through is what really shines. He has went through a lot of awful things and he still tries. Does he fail in certain aspects? Most definitely, but he’s just a kid underneath it all. They all are. I think that’s important to remember when accessing their characteristics and everything they've done. But before I turn this into a TED talk. I just think he’s real. He’s a good guy who has flaws.How they play them: I feel like you capture all the parts about Harry that I adore, from what I’ve seen at least! The Mun: Honestly such a wonderful bean and sweetheart? I didn’t get around to answering a message from four months ago and you were honestly SO nice to me and understanding about it! It definitely made me want to write with you even more.

Overall Opinion: From looking at your blog before following & talking to you in IMs, you just seem like a really nice and chill person. Also really encouraging and involved with plotting which is a very nice change from some other exchanges I’ve experienced before! 10/10 would recommend chatting with this lovely bean!

My Opinion on;

Character in general: Harry is a character that is undermined in his own series.  If you ask someone who their favorite character is, most people say someone other than Harry.  it’s a book about him but …  poor guy, has one hell of a time.  I love Harry, I really, really do.  He is a kid that endures a lot in his life and overcomes many, many things.  How they play them: I enjoy delving into your Harry!  I can’t quite put my finger on it, but he is complex and different and has just …. grown, at least in our thread.  We’ve got a lot to explore and I can’t wait to learn more about him.  The Mun: you’re such a sweetie, tbh!  i know things aren’t easy for you right now but you’ve been nothing but kind to draco and I while plotting.  it takes a lot to be kind, they say, and i just slkdnfsan  i wish you all the best, you know?

i’ve been asked both of these twice, so .....  

my absolute FAVORITE ship from HP??  it’s probably not what you’re thinking ; at all.  It is, in fact, romione.  i don’t care what anyway has to say, i adore them together.  they compliment each other well, and it had a  nice and steady build up to it.  from ron being jealous to even hermione, and just....  it’s pure.  it’s realistic.  i love it. i love it, i love it, i love. and i will always fight for them no matter what.  

a ship i hate the most?  whatever the hell voldemort and bellatrix was supposed to be.  it is, and forever will be ; odd.  it rubs me the wrong way, and i like to just ignore that little fact ( like maybe delphi isn’t really voldemorts?  who knows.   ) anyway its weird no thank you.
