And here it is - the culmination of this week's work!
Annoyingly - the RG Skygrasper uses the same square connector as all of Bandai's old RG kits, so it doesn't mount neatly on a 3mm peg.
I cut the octagonal base off one of the fork adapters for an Action Base. It fits perfectly into the Skygrasper's square stand adapter, but it's also got a 3mm hole in it. So now I can stick that Skygrasper on a normal stand.
And it looks pretty dramatic up on that Customize Scene Base. It gives a real sense of distance and scale. Feels really dramatic.
I'm doing something a little different this week... Starting with Bandai's Customize Scene Base (Landscape Ver.).
These Customize Scene Bases are generally aimed at Bandai's 30 Minute Missions line... But they use a standard 3mm connector so they work pretty well with gunpla in general. And the hexagonal base even works with Bandai's Action Base 4 and 5.
It's super easy to assemble. There's just the one runner of parts. You get three segments that can be combined in various ways.
I painted this up pretty quickly. Didn't put a whole lot of effort into lots of details or anything. It's still just basically a stand.
Then I hit it with some Army Painter Dark Tone. This is a neat tool I've got from my time painting Warhammer miniatures. It's kind of a glaze/wash sort of thing... You just slop it onto your miniature and it mostly settles into the cracks and crevices while also staining everything else. It adds a lot of depth and texture with very little effort.
I threw the extra core fighter from my ZZ Ver.Ka up on the stand for now, but I've got something else planned...
It's worth noting that the actual stand/connector/arm is pretty simple. It doesn't have a lot of articulation or different connections or anything. It's obviously enough to get this little core fighter up in the air... But you might need to get a little creative depending on what you're tying to mount.
