Seven Year Itch| Dave & Jess
It was here. Finals week was upon them. Dave’s week was scheduled solid with performances--some his own classes, most of them not--and he was consulting with all the other professors about their needs for the performances that were scheduled for their classes. As lovely as it was to be the only man in the department, surrounded by lovely, creative women, that also meant that he’d been recruited for all the set up and heavy lifting and running of things like lights and the soundboard. He didn’t mind, since he’d done it all in various parts of his career before teaching. Besides, like he’d said--lots of lovely women.
He’d checked in with Professor Priette and Professor Lane about what they had planned for their final performances, and had carefully gone over every single detail of the shows, determined to make it happen perfectly for them. He had one last teacher to talk to, but he saved her for last, strictly because she was his favorite of the arts department faculty. Tiny, yet commanding, Jess Rabbins ruled her classes with an iron fist wrapped in silk. He never minded when her classes ran a little long and he had a chance to listen to her lecture as he set up for his class quietly in the back ground. And he liked hearing her click down the hall past his office in her heels. It was a familiar sound he’d come to associate with her return from their shared classroom downstairs. Whenever he heard it, he knew it would be a matter of time before he’d hear the soft strains of her music drifting into the hall and her humming slightly out of key as she mindlessly hummed while she worked.
He reviewed his notes from the other two as he rolled down the hall towards Jess’s tower office. Her door was open, and he rapped his knuckles twice on the frame as he stuck his head in. “Hey.” He grinned crookedly, “Goin’ over all the details for the performances. Ya got a minute to do yours?” Jess invited him in with a smile, and he took the seat across from her, flopping his notes on her desk. “So,” He started, settling in comfortably, “What can I do for you?”
