Rexsokatober: Day 7- Flower
.
When Anakin called for a couple of scouting groups, Ahsoka immediately volunteered to go with Rex. She couldn’t see his face, he still had his helmet on, but she could sense the burst of joy that came from him when she volunteered.
They set off in one direction, feeling the excitement of getting a moment alone with each other. They just needed to make sure the surrounding space was clear enough to camp for the night. Nothing too demanding, as long as no droids decided to interrupt. It was as good a time as any to be alone.
The foliage in the area wasn’t particularly dense, and anything remarkable seemed few and far between.
Ahsoka nudged Rex as they walked. “Thinking about anything?” she asked smiling at him.
Rex shrugged, and finally opted to take his helmet off. “Not much really,” he said smiling back. “Mostly taking in the area. Like we’re supposed to be doing,” he added pointedly, raising his eyebrows at her.
Ahsoka rolled her eyes. “The planet is quiet. I don’t sense anything. I’m not worried.”
“Still,” Rex said scanning the area. “Can’t hurt to actually do my job.”
“Well,” Ahsoka sighed. “You look out for enemies and I’ll look at the local wildlife.”
“Who said I wasn’t looking at the local wildlife too?” Rex asked looking back at her.
Ahsoka shrugged smiling. “Seems to out of the job description.”
“It’s definitely part of the job description, and you know it,” Rex responded, pretending to be offended.
“Fine,” Ahsoka conceded. “Then I guess we’ll split the responsibilities.”
“And let you do all the fun stuff? I don’t think so,” Rex said chuckling.
“So it’s fun now?” Ahsoka said grinning at him.
Rex rolled his eyes, but smiled. “Everything turns into a trap with you, doesn’t it?”
Ahsoka shrugged. “It’s not a trap, I just like winning.”
“Always good to be reminded of how good an influence Skywalker is on you,” Rex muttered.
Ahsoka hit him playfully. “Hey!”
Rex chuckled, but shrugged. “I said what I said and I’m right.”
Ahsoka huffed, but she was smiling.
A minute or two went by in silence, then Rex stopped her.
“What is it?” Ahsoka asked, looking back and forth, hands on her lightsabers.
“No danger,” he said, grabbing her hand. “Just look.” He pointed to a spot on the ground. “There’s a flower. First one we’ve seen.”
“I thought I was looking at the local stuff,” Ahsoka crossed her arms and pouted.
“Oh stop that,” Rex said walking over to the flower. “I never agreed to that.” He plucked it and came back.
“Here,” he said handing it to Ahsoka. “You should have it.”
Ahsoka felt her face grow hot and her stripes darken. “But why?” she asked, looking Rex in the eye.
Rex shrugged. “You deserve something nice. I think the planet was saving this one for you.”
Ahsoka smiled and took the flower.
“Thank you,” she said quietly. “I appreciate it.”
“You’re welcome,” Rex said, smiling back. “What do you say we head back? Seems the area is clear.”
“Sounds good to me,” Ahsoka replied, turning around. “Besides, we have a good luck flower. I think we’ll be safe tonight.”
Rex shook his head but chuckled, and followed her back to camp.
