I always hated the smell of cigarette smoke.

I always hated how she made me feel.

Now she is gone and I'm still here picking up the pieces.

But walking down the hallway to her room feels easy, like muscle memory

Lingering in her room and inhaling, is easy, natural

I cough and sputter but it feels like home, it feels like her

Sometimes I just want a taste of her again

Sometimes I convince myself that I could have fixed her

Most of the time I take a deep breath and walk back down the stairs

Past my grandparents separate bedrooms

Past my bite mark I left on the stairs at 6 years old

Past what I thought was love

What is love ? (Baby don't hurt me, no more 🤣)

I'm not really sure, but my daughter is teaching me each day

And she is a really good teacher.
