First and foremost, they believed all intelligent beings were born as selfish animals and were given their lives to learn to be good, selfless and compassionate. Cynabians believed their souls originated in hell, not heaven. Deceased cynabians condemned to hell after death were called monthra. Monthra wandered the featurless wastelands of hell growing bloated and heavy with spawn. A foul, necrotic plasma filled their bellies as well. Eventually the monthra would swell so big they could no longer move. Monthra would grow dozens, sometimes hundreds of festering soulspawn on their bodies. In time, the plasma in a monthra's belly would detonate, releasing and spreading the soulspawn across the landscape. Those soulspawn that surived the blast and crawled their way back to the parent feasted upon the remains, gaining their sentience. Soulspawn that canibalized their parents flesh were then ready to be born as living cynabians. The only spiritual escape from this cycle was making good use of their lives to learn kindness, civility and rationality. As such, cynabians considered parenting, education, ethics, moral law and spiritual growth to be high cultural priorities. Criminality was rare and unrepentant offenders even more so. But there were always a few to repopulate the hordes of the monthra.
