Maddox Flores, Speaker made for a cyberpunk campaign using the Cypher System. Lovingly nicknamed “Soft Maddox” #cyphersystem #character #cyperpunk https://www.instagram.com/p/B7ceMfuAFLZ/?igshid=1t5w5vzscqmwt
And on the 40th day sharing my #Numenera art for @montecookgames , we come to our end (for now), in the "Nacreous Swamp". I really wanted to turn the concept of a swamp on its side with this one! A great mire of pearlescent quicksand that even has 'sandfalls' in places such as the one shown. #quicksand #swamp #weirdart #weirdlandscape #scifiart #seattleart #seattleartist #gameart #rpgart #cyphersystem #rpg #rpgartist #scifiartist #conceptart #sciencefantasy https://www.instagram.com/p/B-LifkxjD4c/?igshid=1fylvv56kuxo7
"Mass Production of Metalic Molars" This is the first of two illustrations I recently created for @montecookgames upcoming Cypher System Rulebook 2! Subteranian factories produce monumental phrostetic teeth on a world rich in mineral resources, to replenish the jaws of fearsome interstellar leviathans. #illustration #scifi #fantasy #cyphersystem #art #landscape #fantasylandscape #scifilandscape #sciencefiction #marsh #estuary #river #organic #factory #molar #teeth #giant https://www.instagram.com/p/ByDLNPbnTsI/?igshid=18yat1j8i1mnj
Running The Strange. I am a huge fan of Numenera, but The Strange took a bit before it hooked me. When I first read the setting book it sort of seemed like a kinda cheesy way to do genre-hopping campaigns; this week it's pirates, next week it's the zombie apocalypse, the week after it's superheroes. But when I actually got a chance to play it at BigBadCon I enjoyed it immensely - the setting really does hang together if you do it right and it provides a way to play in these alternate universes in interesting ways. The game is really about discovering and exploring these different worlds and telling stories about how their inhabitants collide with earth in interesting ways; getting to play different genres is just a nice bonus that gives the game flair and a hook. Anyway, I've enjoyed the game a great deal, as much as Numenera, and that's a pretty high bar 😀 #rpg #cyphersystem #thestrangerpg #montecookgames
"Weathering a Storm on the Napsidian Coast", 12" x 16" Oil on Gessoed Hardboard 2019 Jordan K Walker This is the second illustration I created for the upcoming Cypher System Rule Book 2 published by @montecookgames ! Fine art prints are avaliable in my print shop, click on the link in my profile to find out more! "Immense waves crash into the cliffs of the Napsidian Coast, showering strong woven constructions with spray and foam. These buildings house the Napsidians themselves, a race of proud reptilian entities who once ruled an entire continent but now cling to the edge of the world after generations of genocide and persecution. They have weathered storms worse than this, but nervously await the day that the sea swallows their woven cities, and washes all memory of their kind from the surface world." #fantasy #scifi #art #illustration #seascape #landscape #oil #ocean #wave #painting #architecture #basket #weaving #cliff #stormy #artprint #cyphersystem #montecookgames #coast https://www.instagram.com/p/BzN_X4EHgko/?igshid=1cuqkvdzr2g0t
Here is the first of a few creatures I had the pleasure of illustrating for the new #Numenera Discovery and Destiny core books published by @montecookgames . Numenera is a scifi/fanyasy role playing game set on earth one billion years in the future. This particular creature is a 'snow loper'; a fearsome polar predator originally genetically engineered to serve as a mount and pack animal in harsh snowy and rocky terrain. I imagined their genetic blueprints might have come from walrus, polar bears, and mountain goats with a bit of primate and arachnid thrown in for fun. Wild populations now roam free, and it is rare to see domesticated individuals. The books have been prereleased to kickstarter backers, and will be in stores within the next couple of months. #illustration #creature #painting #game #montecook #cyphersystem #ninthworld #numenera #fantasy #scifi
#RPGaDay2024 August 7th
Good show, old chap! Monte Cook Games gave us the Cypher System RPG. It has good form. It has good forms for the Game Master, too. It's also well supported and based on another very successful game- Numenera.
RPG with “Good Form:” I think this topic has wide open ground for interpretation. The first game that comes to mind is the Cypher System. It flows almost seamlessly from genre to genre and from one campaign setting to another smoothly. I think it probably has a lot to do with Cypher growing out of Numenera. I tend to tinker with a lot of generic systems. Before d20, there was GURPS. After the…
