Worth noting it’s the 3rd year in a row where one of my big faves finishes 21st in the final (Cyprus 2016, Cyprus 2017, Hungary 2018) so if a cool fave of mines qualifies again then I’ll be already prepared to be disappointed because they’ll be one spot away from bottom 5 again. And I know I am getting repetitive af about Hungary but the last time one of my big faves finished 21st before 2016 was Malta in 2012. Same draw (yep they both were drawn 21st), same finish. And let’s actually talk about Hungary 2012 for a sec: 2018 is the second time Hungary finished 10th in semi, thus barely qualifying. And even if the 2012 would’ve swapped them with Switzerland, now I want to swap Switzerland with Denmark because I love “Unbreakable” and I like “Sound of Our Hearts” as much as I like “Goodbye” (Romania 2018) and love “Viszlát nyár” (haha two songs with “goodbye” in the title finished next to each other in the semi). I want(ed) them both, not to have songs I like finish 10th and 11th thus only one of them qualifying. Kudos to Romania for sending a song that kind of tackles the topic of suicide attempts by the way (“it’s time for me to say goodbye, it’s hard, I’ve tried a million times”, “I should’ve stayed but I already left a thousand times”, “no matter what the odds will bring you, please don’t say goodbye”). So yeah, I will be disappointed but not surprised if I root for someone only for it ending up 21st in the final :’)
I can add that I was listening to Iceland 2016 a lot during the ESC week, you know the one unexplained flop of a fan fave, fearing for worst but hoping for best... never had a similar moment occuring to me like amiovericelandnotqualifying but I was 4-5 points away from it...
