Choose Your Story- Loki Prologue

Here we go, lovelies! The beginning of our first choose your story for "10 fics for 10 years"! You all voted for an Alternate Universe and surprisingly, a University AU. And you voted for the "I hate everyone but you" over-arching trope! Familiar characters are NOT mine!

So, without further ado, here's your prologue/part 1!

Warnings: University AU. None really

Pairings: Eventual!Loki x reader

Staff meetings bored Loki to tears. He could hardly stand to be in the same room with his colleagues, especially so early in the morning. Not to mention the fact that he had woken up with a feeling in his gut that he couldn’t identify, but made him know that something was going to happen that day. Something big. He didn’t expect that something would come in the form of a new professor. 

Loki stood in the back of the room, leaning against the wall, sipping his coffee with all the determination of a man who absolutely did NOT want to speak to anyone else in the room. Not that he needed to bother. No one really spoke to him unless necessary except for his own brother. In fact, it was his brother’s booming voice that caused Loki to finally lower his coffee cup and tune back into what was happening. 

His eyes found Thor first. He was speaking animatedly to the person next to him. Thor leaned back in his chair and Loki caught a glimpse of someone he hadn’t seen before. You were giving Thor a tense smile, clearly not used to his golden retriever energy yet. 

Dean Fury cleared his throat to begin the meeting. Loki partially tuned out again. He didn’t care about the last meeting’s minutes or anything that didn’t have to do with his own department at the moment. He wanted to know about you. He wanted to know who you were. Fortunately, Fury got to the point rather quickly. 

“I’d like you to meet Professor Y/F/N. They are going to be joining the History department this next term.” Loki breathed a little sigh of relief. He headed the English department and would have been furious if Fury had hired you as an English or Literature professor without giving him warning.

Steve Rogers beamed at you and welcomed you. You returned the smile before your (e/c) eyes scanned the room, finally landing on Loki. You studied him for a moment until Thor grabbed your attention again. Loki went back to his coffee until the end of the meeting. 

When the meeting was over, Loki grabbed his belongings, only to accidentally smack something with his bag. A slight “oof” reached his ears and he turned to see you standing there, rubbing your arm. Your gaze met his and you smiled a little. “Apologies,” he said by way of a greeting. You waved him off. “No worries. I should have watched where I was going.” 

You offered him your hand, “Y/F/N,” you introduced yourself then your smile turned a little sheepish, “Though I guess you knew that already, huh?” Loki found himself fighting back a little grin of his own. You weren’t acting or trying too hard. You were clearly being yourself rather than behaving in a way you thought others would appreciate or like. “Loki Laufeyson. Pleasure to meet you, Professor. I look forward to seeing you again.” With that, he dropped your hand and left the room.

Outside the door, Loki heard Tony Stark whistle. “Never thought I’d see the day when someone cracked the Ice Man’s shell.” You must have looked confused. ‘What do you mean? It was just a friendly introduction.” 

“Exactly!” Thor’s voice came next, “Loki, at the best of times, is indifferent or cold to others. He has always been that way, since we were children. In the worst times, well…”

“He’s downright impossible,” Stark interrupted, “He really hates everyone. Except for you, it seems.” You let out a little scoff. “I really doubt he hates EVERYONE.” Loki remained where he was, sensing that no one was leaving the room yet. “Y/N, yes he does. When Fury hired me, the man didn’t talk to anyone for a week. Because of me! And I’m a delight! Not even a passing nod in greeting in the halls. He keeps to himself. A lot.”

“Maybe he just doesn’t like egotistical asses, Professor Stark.” Loki had to bite his lip to stop from laughing. Then and there he decided that he hated you a little less than everyone else. Just a little…
