“Hey, is this yours?” Gabriel asked the nearest patron, plucking the pendant off the floor. Leaning the broom against the counter and holding it up so they could see it under the florescent lighting of Geeks and Freaks, the archangel cocked his head, trying to figure out exactly what it was supposed to be. It looked like a mix between a cat, a bird, and a star - though he was just kinda guessed haphazardly as the tiny piece of jewelry spun slowly on the chain by which he held it. “It was right under your table.”
Forrest didn’t have a plan, per-se, when he walked to the Creation Peak Sheriff’s Department, pausing outside and staring up at the building. If it was possible to fill in the blanks that Salvatore stubbornly refused to fill in, it was logical to assume that those tasked with putting together the pieces all day every day would be a good place to start. Still, it was just as likely if not more that they had a hand at keeping it hidden to begin with. Just as that variable had him turn on his heels to find somewhere else to start, he nearly ran into someone walking up behind him. Upon seeing the uniform, it was likely they were returning to work, which only served to make him feel like even more an idiot lingering outside all suspicious and awkward. “Oh! Um, my apologies. I’ll get out of your way.”
Even as he was scrambling to recompose himself, embarrassed by his uncharacteristic lack of self-awareness, he couldn’t help but think there was something familiar about the man. Though he couldn’t recall ever seeing his face in any memorable way.
It was late evening, dark enough the breeze had begun to get brisk and Forrest tugged his coat more tightly around his body. Feeding the pigeons had done nothing to brighten his sour mood and Salvatore’s willful silence grated on him almost as much as their earlier stream of refusals had. He was reluctant to return to his apartment or to whatever businesses still remained open, but sitting in the dark in the middle of the park with nothing but the voice in his head for company was simply too broody even for him.
Wandering aimlessly wasn’t much better, but it allowed him the dignity of at least pretending to have somewhere to be. Or at least it would’ve if he’d been allowed to wallow in it. Salvatore sensed a familiar presence nearby when they passed through the outskirts of town - one from long, long ago when they had stayed in the Tuscany region watching the world evolve into it’s current beastly form. Salvatore did not consider themselves one to have friends, they did not need them nor did they desire them, but there were some beings that had managed to gain a shallow fondness from them over the centuries and one of such beings was currently close enough to feel. You shall have to forgive me later, Forrest.
The night gave them the power to take control, nudging their brooding human host to the periphery so they could pursue their lost connection. If nothing else, perhaps an interaction with her would give them further information to file away for later use.
“It has been many years, Zeldris. You look exactly the same,” they mused as they walked up behind her, curious to see how long it took for her to recognize them.
Entering Howie’s Oddities, Gabriel wasn’t sure what to expect. From what he’d gathered, the place sold a bit of everything and that paired with the name were reason enough for him to go inside. It was a cozy kinda place with all kinds of junk that had Creation Peaks emboldened on it in a proud font. However, that was far from the first thing that caught his attention considering there was a dog on the counter.
“Hey there, little dude. This your place?” He joked, holding out a hand so the tiny creature could deem him a-okay before he scratched behind its ear. The Archangel entertained himself with the dog for a while longer, pleased to know it seemed to think he was good people. For as much as he loved humans, he trusted a dog’s judgement of character far above their’s. “No, I guess not, huh. Where’s your manager? No offense but I don’t trust you to count my change.”
Finally tearing his attention away from the dog, he glanced around the store hoping to spot whoever “Howie” was, and it must’ve been his lucky day because he got his wish almost immediately. He got way more than that. It had been a long, long time since he’d seen his elder brother but Gabe would’ve recognized him anywhere - even depowered with a whole new face and everything. “Shit. No way.”

The youngest of the Archangels, Gabriel always had his brother’s to look up to in their faithful service of their father. He loved them dearly and did all he could to be as impressive and devoted as they were to His word and His plan, though he could never shake the feeling that he fell short. He wasn’t as serious or strategic as they were, but he was earnest and loyal and determined enough to make up for it.
Gabriel had been tasked frequently to speak to the humans God had created, delivering to them the words of his father whenever they were given to him. His affection for them grew with each visit to earth, they were ephemeral creatures who loved so passionately and did so much in their short lives. He admired their faith and admonished their cruelty in equal measures.
Even after Lucifer fell and took so many of their brethren with him, Gabriel could not stop loving him. He hated his actions, his resentment, his betrayal - but Lucifer was still his brother and hating him was never something he could manage. Though he would never side against their father, accepting his imprisionment as the best and only solution, he missed his eldest brother. Perhaps it would’ve been easier if he had been killed by Michael. It is much easier to accept death then to accept that someone you love is still alive, just locked away somewhere you shouldn’t ever attempt to reach them.
His role in the war was as minimal as he could allow it to be. He still fought on the side of his father and Heaven - eternally loyal to Him - but kept mostly to less actively violent positions as he could.
Raphael’s rage and Michael’s departure from heaven left him feeling isolated, the weight of their father’s disappearance and the new burden of keeping things afloat was heavy and suffocating - more than he had ever wanted. However, it was his duty - what he had been created to uphold - and he completed it to the best of his ability.
Gabriel would’ve never considered himself a fighter nor would he have considered himself fit to rule over anyone or anything on the scale of Heaven, but he did what he was forced to do by the conflict that plagued their family. He ruled as strictly as he could, though his version of an iron fist was a lot less iron than was expected of him.
Coming to Creation Peaks was initially meant to be another layer of defense to keep the seals unbroken, but he is finding comfort and enjoyment in living amongst the humans and finding some amount of joy in their fascinating everyday life.
& Useless Headcanons
Gabriel loves earth and all the fun things humans have come up with to occupy their time. He especially loves learning how to play any and all sports he has ever heard even a passing mention of.
He also enjoys video games and comedy shows - mostly stand up specials.
Even with an unfathomable and vast understanding of the universe, he can still be kind of an idiot.
He bought a gold cross necklace from a pawn shop when he first moved into town and he hasn’t taken it off since. It is probably not real gold, but he doesn’t care as the monetary or societal value of materials means nothing to him.
He has tried to read the Bible as humans have recorded it but got too frustrated about a quarter of the way through that he had to stop. He considered correcting the whole thing and giving it to the Pope, but he’s been informed that would not go over well.
He did give himself the last name Doe because he thought it’d be kinda funny. No one should’ve let him name himself.
