Prologue:
Hey all! I’m not dead! I’ve been pretty busy with school lately, so I haven’t uploaded anything in a long time. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on stuff!
Okay, so!
This is the first draft of a new project called Dägam /dʌ.gamˈ/
This artlang goes along with the world I created quite a long time ago (which I’m still editing the map for, so stay tuned). It is a language spoken in the country of Dagoman, a large-bodied country with surrounding archipelago on the north tip of the Morian continent. The language itself is in the Zilto-Morian family, an area of languages between the continents of Zantrus and Morian.
Some things about this lang:
Pronunciation:
All word-initial and word-final consonants are unvoiced.
V(unround) -> V(round) / C(labial) _____ -> V(unround) / elsewhere
(All vowels are unrounded unless preceded by a labial (bilabial and labiodental) consonant)
All root-final consonants in verbs are stops. When conjugated, the stop dissimilates to a nearby fricative. Examples:
modibës —> modiva /m̥o.di.bœsˈ/ —> /m̥o.di.βaˈ/ vëgudës —> vëguja /fœ.gɯ.dɛsˈ/ —> /fœ.gɯ.ʒaˈ/ bocës —> boja /po.cɛsˈ/ —> /po.ʝaˈ/
Word Order:
Word order is always VOS, except in clauses, when it turns into OVS.
Example in English:
I love you, but I must leave you.
(Love you I, but you must leave I)
