some russian rulers, even considering how cruel they were in certain aspects and made far from the best decisions at times, were ultimately very smart and even with all my distaste for monarchy i can say that from a historian's point of view i respect them and value the change they have made. some other russian rulers, on contrast, were complete, utter dumbasses who most certainly didnt know how to tie their own shoes and it showed throughout their reign

a history student mood: when u look up the time and the numbers make a year. i looked at the time and it was 12:23 am & my first thought wasnt "oh fuck i need to sleep!" it was "oh fuck thats the year of the battle of kalka!"

honestly it will always be beyond me why do so many people here who think they know something abt soviet history think that stalinism was completely in line with leninism and lenin’s ideas... like dont you think there was a reason lenin explicitly didnt want stalin to come to power after his death???

you know how sometimes you read about [insert terrible historic event] especially first hand accounts and its maybe not just the big numbers and descriptions of suffering and stuff which make a deep impression on you but the absolutely tiny trivial details... yeah i was again going through that book about the deportations of soviet germans that i already mentioned a few days ago, and one of the people interviewed there described how when they were made to leave, everyone was crying and so on, and one of their russian neighbors decided to turn the radio on - and as the trains were loaded and left, a popular upbeat song was playing. and well then i googled that song and apparently its known in the internet and generally among people for having like 3745859593 obscene verses. and you know what? i hate this i literally hate this so much

honestly to some extent im glad that this current trend of WWII revisionism probably wont reach russia bc this particular ee brand of trying to paint themselves as the only good ones, the martyrs between nazism and communism, doesnt make any sense here. but then i remember that it has already existed here in a different form ever since the war ended and russia (ussr) presented itself as the Ultimate Saviour, and all the soviet citizens, regardless of race/ethnicity, as having suffered equally at the hands of nazis, which of course didnt allow any room for any kind of discussion about holocaust. so like if russia starts pulling similar shit about russian collaborationism or w/e... its just old news
