The Big Sister Chat - Part Twenty-four
Ophelia's tiny hands gripped the edge of the scan, “In there?” Ophelia pressed her face against Eden's stomach, “how?” she asks so innocently as Cillian and Eden share a look, “oh it's a little game mammy’s and daddies play” Eden smiles, “I play?” Eden catches Cillian's eye, he's trying to hold back a laugh.
“No Phee, it's a grown up game” Cillian pushes her hair from her forehead “oh, kay” she nods “baba come now?” She asks onto her next train of thought. Eden shakes her head “we have to wait a few months” she holds Ophelia's arms as she stands up, Cillian steadying her with a hand on her back.
“Baby has to cook, in Mammy’s tummy” Cillian teased, “cook?” She presses her hand against Cillian's cheek, he turns his face pretending to bite at her hand “dada” she squeals, falling against his chest. He wraps his arm around Ophelia, “so you think being a big sister will be ok?” He asks.
She pulls back, turning to Eden “I think yes” she nods “will mama be sis-ta-h?” She grabbed towards Eden, Eden moved over to sit closer to them “No, I'll be mama” she laughed lightly “my mama?” Ophelia frowned, plonking herself down on Cillian's lap.
Cillian dropped a kiss to the top of her head, his hand resting on Eden's thigh, they’d gone over and over how to tell their three year old she was having a sibling join her, Cillian had been so unphased but Eden knew it would feel like a big deal. Ophelia had all their attention all of the time and suddenly she’d be sharing it. Cillian had playfully argued that he had three siblings and never got jealous of them.
Eden had laughed, she had heard the stories from his mum, but she kept tight lipped “I still think we should talk to her about it” Eden had pushed as she got into bed the night before, they’d had the twelve week scan and all was fine. Cillian had agreed, “but no big announcement” he chuckled, pulling her against him.
Eden shook her head, “I'll be mammy to both of you” Eden lent forward kissing her cheek “Oh?” Ophelia looked up at Cillian, “we will be baba’s mammy and daddy like we are your mammy and daddy” Cillian stated gently, it took her a moment to take it in, before she grinned at Cillian “yes” she nodded, as if Cillian was telling her something she already knew.
Eden laughed, Ophelia was getting smarter everyday, she could tell she’d have a fierce attitude as she got older. Moving from the sofa, she made her way into the kitchen, she’d picked up a little something for Ophelia. Cillian had made it clear it wasn’t going to be a big thing, but she couldn’t resist.
Cillian watched as Eden came back in the pink paper bag in her hand, he recognised it from the small boutique in town, “ah yer mam’s been spending again” he tusked, Ophelia giggled “Say naughty mammy” Cillian teased, his chin on her shoulder as she sat on his lap. She clapped in excitement “nought-ee Mammy” she screeched, Eden rolled her eyes playfully at the pair of them.
She pulled the soft sweatshirt from the bag, holding it up so Ophelia and Cillian could see it, a sandy colour with brown ‘Sissy’ embroidered on the front.“for you Phee” Eden smiled as Ophelia grabbed for it “Me” she giggled “For Fifi” she added.
“Come here love lets get this on you” Cillian took the sweater, pulling her top over her head so she was in just her vest and leggings, swiftly pulling the sweater on. “Gorgeous” he hummed letting her stand on his thighs.
“Ah come on Cill let's take a few pictures to send to your sisters and mam” she coaxed, She watched his face soften “fine ok” he laughed, “Phee want to do the announcement?” He asked, she giggled with another clap of her hands, bouncing her legs on his thighs.
Cillian placed her on the floor rubbing at his thighs where her feet had pressed into them, she followed Eden “Fifi do it!” She grinned.
