am i the only one who thinks harry becoming an auror is not an out of character or unrealistic choice for a career? yes he hated the corruption in the ministry and the way things were run and no he wouldn’t want to be in any real position of power, but rounding up and capturing all remaining deatheaters? putting a stop to pureblood supremacist groups? trying to make the world a better place for people like teddy, aka the orphaned boy whose parents died fighting in a war so the rest of them could live in a peaceful world, free from discrimination, persecution, genocide etc? do i think this is a burden he should have to carry around? of course not. but do i think it’s actually very in character for him to work at the ministry and try to make a better, safer and fairer world for everyone? yes!

that being said, do i still believe him becoming a teacher is also in character and a perfect canon full circle moment for him? HELL yes. and in my mind, he took over as the dada professor after about ten-fifteen years at the ministry. maybe when he’s in his mid-late thirties, he’s thinking he wants to spend more time with his kids, and ginny is very supportive of him not putting himself in danger every day at work. so while he’s still an auror, mcgonnagal gets him to come guest lecture every now and again over the years at hogwarts for dada while he’s still at the ministry, and ginny reminds him how much he loved teaching the da, and how he should take a step back, because he isn’t responsible for stopping every single bad thing that happens. he can and should live his own life too. so he eventually takes up the job full time, to mcgonagall’s delight (and neville’s), but he floos to and from work every day, because he only agreed to be a professor on the condition he could teach all day but live/sleep at home (being away from ginny and the kids wouldn’t have worked for him, let’s be real). and that is the end of my rant, thank you for listening.

wait ok thinking through who would be a DADA professor in 1976 bc there's a bunch of factors to consider. first of all would Dumbledore approve? and in like 1976 the war is ON and he will want someone loyal and competent in the position. So most likely an order member. But also: he can't risk benching his top fighters for a year with the risk of death or maiming at the end of it. And by this point the curse has likely become evident to the public so people will be unwilling to take it. And a lot of Order members already have other jobs: for instance Frank or Alice would be interesting to have do it, but they are Aurors in a full on war so they have more important things to do and can't be spared from their real jobs lol. So like...maybe not the most competent of Order members lol! And by 1976 he's probably run through a lot of the people he could ask to do it. And then there's who would the board of governors approve? So it can't be anyone TOO radical, and you could even have them imposing a choice one year after Dumbledore fails to find anyone. Or the Ministry pulling an Umbridge! so many possibilities.

Headcanon: Snape taught Minerva how to do Legilimency and Occlumency during his second year as Potions Professor. What does this mean concretely? Well — it means that during Harry’s time at Hogwarts, every time there was a new DADA Professor (i.e. Quirrell, Lockhart, Umbridge), the two of them would have mental conversations by communicating through Legilimency. This of course led to an increasing amount of suppressed hilarity at the High Table every year and both of them having to work twice as hard to perfect their poker faces.

For example, on the morning of Umbridge’s arrival to Hogwarts, they were watching her come down a set of stairs towards the High Table when, with no forewarning, Snape sent the thought “Trip, you bitch” to Minerva via Legilimency. Of course, this was too much for McGonagall and she coughed and spat out her tea down the front of her gown. But luckily this went unnoticed because of the noise in the hall and the fact that students and staff were still taking their seats. Professor Sprout patted Minerva’s back — Snape said something witty about Minerva coughing and how she’d ‘finally succumbed to her cat allergy’ — and after Minerva sent him a mischievous glare, the two of them forced themselves to regain composure before Umbridge finally arrived at the table, smelling insidiously of dusty roses and patchoulis – and every inch of her draped in pink.

Dame Galatea Merrythought was a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from around 1895 until her retirement in 1945. From some point between the 1920s and the 1940s, she taught Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Among her pupils was a young Gryffindor named Albus Dumbledore; other students she taught included Elphias Doge, Aberforth Dumbledore, Muriel, Tessie, Gawain, Lancelot Prewett, Horace Slughorn, Omolade MacDougal, Augusta Longbottom, Odell Bulstrode, Neville Bulstrode I, Tom Riddle, Walburga Black, and Rubeus Hagrid. The Headmaster during her early years was Professor Phineas Nigellus Black, and later she also went on to work under Professor Armando Dippet.

During the First Wizarding War she became a secret ally of her former student Albus Dumbledore and his organization the Order of the Phoenix against another of her students Tom Riddle and his followers known as Death Eaters.

During the Second Wizarding War she allied herself with former students Augusta Longbottom ( née Bulstrode) and Omolade Bulstrode (née MacDougal). She mentored and trained Order of the Phoenix member Hestia Jones and members of the EoS (Embers of Salamander)

Galatea and Seraphina Bones portraits assisted Slytherin students in rebelling and expelling siblings Alecto and Amycus Carrow from the Slytherin dungeons.

After the Second Wizarding War her portrait replaced Elizabeth Burke’s as the guard to the Slytherin Dungeons.

I think I'm the only one who hasn't realized this before

Remus Lupin was asleep on the train Septemeber 1st 1993 just before his teaching career as the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts School of Whitch Craft and Wizardy.

August 31st 1993 was the second full moon of the month. He wasn't just travel sleepy, he was fucking exausted.
