School Book Interview
My school produces a School Book every two years which is kind of like a cross between a two-years-worth-magazine and a yearbook - all the students and teachers in the whole school are in it and it has many pictures of events and letters and interviews and classes etc in it (I've been looking at their school trips and feeling so bummed that I never get to go to any of the really cool fun stuff D: XD)
(I actually recognise the bottom photo on the front cover, I was actually at that event!! It was the school's show - basically lots of dancing and singing ^^) Anyway, I was actually interviewed for this book - my pages!;
Someone I know on facebook saw my post these pictures talking about it and said they'd like to know what I said in my interview, so, here you go!! My school's interview with me ^_^
Please introduce yourself. Hello everyone! I'm Carrie (카리), I'm from Scotland, and I'm 23 years old (24 in Korea). As you know, I'm the new native English speaking teacher at school. =) What is a difficult point and good point of being a teacher in Korea? A difficult point is that I have to work very hard to plan all of my lessons, because I teach both middle school and high school. Not understanding people because I can't speak Korean yet can also be difficult. However, a really, REALLY, great point is easily the students!! I really love ALL of my students, in ALL of my classes already. Every time I'm having a really bad day and a student tries to speak to me in English, or says something nice, it's enough to make me happy the rest of the day! =) What are the cultural differences between Korea and your country? Many! Too many to talk about here easily. But, one example is age. In Scotland, you are 0 when you are born, and you don't turn 1 year old until your birthday exactly 1 year (365 days) later. We don't turn a year older at new year. Another is that hagwons aren't common in Scotland. The students go to public school 9am - 4:15pm and they don't have any more school after that. Some, though very few, students hire private tutors in subjects they are bad at around exam time, but that's it. What is your most memorable moment in Korea. I think my most memorable moment will always be my first week teaching at school. I met a lot of really nice students, funny students, smart students, brave students, etc, and they all made me feel very welcome here. It meant a lot to me, because the first week in a foreign country from across the world can be extremely difficult, and they made it that little bit less scary =) Which K-pop music do you like? How much time do you have! I like LOTS of kpop music - Super Junior, 2NE1, EXO, Clazzi, IU, Infinite, Brown Eyed Girls, Sunny Hill, SISTAR, 4minute, Tablo, CNBLue, Royal Pirates, U-KISS, B2ST/BEAST, Block B, SHINee, Big Bang, Wonder Girls, Kara, Miss A, B.A.P., B1A4, etc! I could go on forever! But, what I like best of all, is extremely good vocals. So, I really like people like Ailee, Hyorin, and Super Junior K.R.Y. best - because they can sing so~~ well. What is your favourite food in Korea? I think Galbi? Kimbap? Both are really good! Ddukkbokki is really good if it's not too spicy for me as well =) What do you think of Daebu middle and high school? I really like it and am happy here =) I've already really enjoyed my time with the students, and I would love to get to know them all a little better. What are you going to do during your winter vacation? Well, I have a really wonderful, loving family back home. I'm very close with them, so I miss them every day. Especially my littlest sister, who turns 5 years old in a few days. She tells me she misses me lots and lots, and asks me if I'm coming home soon. So, I will probably go home to visit my family for three weeks. It'll be nice to see them all again <3 What would you like to say to Daebu students? Don't be scared to talk to me haha!! It's okay if you don't know much English, if you try it will make me super happy! =) It can be about anything; you can ask me questions, ask for advice, tell me something, or even just say hello! How about you recommend some things to me? I want to find some good new music - what should I listen to? Where are some good places to visit on Daebudo? How do I get there? You're all welcome to come talk to me about anything =) Just please, please don't by shy =) Let's all try to have some fun while we learn English!
