it’s treated like a joke because it was executed so poorly and done soley for over the top drama in a comic that was otherwise known for unlikable manchildren characters playing video games with their sentient Xbox robot mascot. the joke is not the content, but the fact that the creator thought it was a good idea to begin with

ohhh, okay. standing alone it seems pretty terrible, but given the context of the comic that would make a lot more sense. my only experience with the comic is that page, and another where there’s something involving children, and it makes the wife super sad.
