Bio
Though Daishell is now a sword and shield wielding warrior, he was born and raised a rogue. His father was a desperate man, a failing shopkeeper who could not sell someone a gold for fifty silvers. To keep his business above water, he resorted to teaching young Daishell to pick the pockets of the people gathered in Denerim’s city market, which he proved to have quite a talent for. Instinct and his natural, rather strikingly handsome appearance taught him to smile and flirt his way out of trouble when it found him. At age sixteen, when Daishell’s father became the victim of his debtors, he was sent by the City Guard to the Chantry to become the burden of their charity. Daishell cared very little for the Chantry and its teachings – they had regularly turned his father away when he came to them for help – and he got into fairly regular trouble with the authority there. However, he still managed to smile and flirt his way into the favor of the Holy Mother, who sent him away for Templar training with glowing recommendations. While Daishell went through his training, he showed no sign of repentance for what some sisters called his “wicked ways”, and gave no sign that he might consider giving up his sassy demeanor and enthusiastic use of his quick fingers. Still, for reasons known only to him, the day that Daishell took a knee and took his oath, he swore himself a changed man, a servant faithful and loyal to the Chantry and the Maker, and swore off any and all attachment to the material in life. Daishell very quickly made a name for himself in the Templar order, due to his passion and incredible talent for finding and bringing in apostate mages (a combination, likely, of those quick fingers and smiling charm). He charmed his way into a position as an independent agent of the Chantry at only twenty, working alone to quickly, quietly, and extremely efficiently bring apostates and maleficars to justice as well as bring down the rings and groups who assist them. At the beginning, Daishell did keep his oath and work faithfully, complete every task laid before him by the Chantry, brought in every apostate and everyone found assisting them without question. However, somewhere between witnessing the reality that the mages face, the terror and heartbreak that they and their families suffered, and the horrible tortures and abuses awaiting them in captivity, Daishell abandoned his convictions. Now, Daishell uses the power and authority of the Chantry that he wears on his chest to further his own interests. Daishell hunts apostates and maleficars still, as well as their allies, but he does it on his terms. He lets those slip who he deems worthy of mercy, brings in those he does not. According to him, he does not “abuse, torture, unduly harm, or turn mages in to those who have a reputation built upon doing so”, with the very careful qualification of “unless they deserve it”.
It can, at times, be incredibly difficult to tell where Daishell's loyalties truly lie.
And he prefers it that way.
