A Midnight Snack || Daisy and Rose
Lady Rose lay in bed with her eyes closed. It was late, but no matter how hard she tried, sleep wouldn't come to her. A day of travelling from London to Downton had given her a greater than usual appetite, and although she'd eaten plenty of pudding at dinner (it had always been her favourite part of every meal, to her mother's dissatisfaction) her stomach had begun to feel empty by the time she'd undressed for bed.
With a cross sigh, she threw back the sheets and sat up. Rose wrapped a warm robe around herself to cover her nightgown, and pushed her feet into a pair of slippers before opening her bedroom door and padding down the corridor.
Her relatives had all been in bed for ages, of course, but the house was not entirely quiet yet. She didn't want the servants to see her in case she got in trouble, as she certainly would have at home. It took Rose nearly thirty minutes of sneaking around the unfamiliar house to find the kitchen, which she had never visited before. She paused by the door, wondering if the cook would still be there. Rose wasn't sure exactly what she planned to eat, or even where the food was kept - but there must be something cold lying around, surely.
Her stomach gave another small growl and she finally opened the door a little way. "Hello?" she called from the doorway, hesitating to enter. This wasn't a part of the house she was supposed to see, and it felt sort of forbidden even when it appeared to be empty.
