Btw City of Daivas (working title) is based on my moms culture from Karnataka, India. It's basically based on these deities known as Daivas that are connected to a particular family. The Daivas are worshipped by that family and in return provide them with protection. They're not good/evil beings, they're more entities that will protect their family no matter what. There are a few main Daivas that are responsible for the biggest families in the Bunt community( the community that believes in Daivas) while the lesser known Daivas protect smaller families. By family, I don't mean just parents and kids. I mean every single person connected by blood to that family. However, the Bunt community is Matriarchal, so when a son marries out of the family his kids are no longer under the protection of the family Daiva. They'll come under the jurisdiction of the wife's family Daiva. So anyways, City of Daivas is a futuristic Mumbai where social hierarchy is dictated by the power of your Daiva. And usually, the more powerful your Daivas are, the larger the family is. So the current ruling family of the city (it's more political not a monarchy) will have such a large span of relatives, they will be in control of almost everything.
