We are thrilled to premiere Dalai Lama Fellows' first-ever Micro-Documentary, shot on site during the 2014 Ethical Leadership Assembly.

On March 13, 2014 Dalai Lama Fellows’ Staff travelled to the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco to watch David Kelley, founder of IDEO, The Stanford D. School, and Co-Author of the recently published book, Creative Confidence.

We were thrilled to hear David confirm that his “Motivation to create comes from empathy for other people.”

We also learned that only 25% of the world’s population is using their full creative capacity and were left ignited with conversation around how we as a staff can use Design Thinking in our day-to-day work to spark our own creativity. We look forward to launching Designing Ethical Systems as one of the three core competencies of the Dalai Lama Fellows Heart, Head, and Hands Curriculum for our incoming class of 2014 Fellows. Inspired by David Kelley, we are asking our Fellows to create an “Anti-Portfolio” (a visual powerpoint chronicling their top five failures). We are also challenging our Fellows to make the “empathize-define-ideate-prototype-iterate” framework an ongoing mental habit, and to create their own “innovation notebooks” at ELA 2014.
