the last thing bea middleton (collins) remembers about her mother, josephine (green), is the dead look she had on her face in the hospital. two days later she was dead. that was when bea was ten and now at 23 she never found out what happened to her mother. she remembered her mother wasn't always like that, but when bea was 8 years old her mother disappeared for a year and a half. she was found in savannah, georgia and then six months later she succumbed to death. bea stopped questioning it and moved on with her life. she lived in columbus, ohio with her boyfriend, collin (hemsworth). she worked at a restaurant, she didn't cause any trouble, she just lived her life. until the day her father gives her a journal he had been keeping for the last thirteen years.
in the journal josephine chronicles a mission she goes to find a mysterious man she only refers to as 'mon cher'. bea reads this and something wakes up inside of her. she wants to know what about this trip made her mother go insane and leave her and who this man is. without telling collin or her job bea leaves on an adventure to find out who her mother was and finds out so much more about herself, her love, and her life.
