I am now the ‘Embarrassing Adult’
Since I work with kids ages 8 to 18 and many of them enjoy this thing called ‘being social’, our organization puts on dances every so often. At these functions, there’s less dancing and more ‘OMG TEEN DRAMA ANGST I’LL CUT A BITCH I SWEAR’, but the kids still have fun.
When I try to dance, my hips always get a bit too interested, and I don’t like dancing that way in front of impressionable minds. So I just kinda... flail, but with a little more rhythm than the word implies.
Last night, my dancing earned:
About 30 silently mouthed ‘no’s
4 kids who would laugh and run whenever they saw me approaching and getting into ‘dance position’
3 attempts to show me how to dance properly
3 moments where my tutors threw their hands up into the air despairingly
About 7,000 megawatt smiles because as much as they were embarrassed by me, the kids absolutely loved watching me make a fool of myself, and I suspect that many of them secretly like me
