Vlad is your childhood friend. You two grew together like there was invisible glue in between. Yall never forget about each other no matter how much time passed. At least that's how your childhood best friend thought. Hoped so, even.
You were his light - right from the start. Your presence alone provided his life with meaning - something Vlad needed badly as a child who grew up in a broken household, if you can even call it that.
Your childhood best friend doesn't like to remeber how was it like to grow up around a father who was like a live corpse with his alcohol addiction and severe depression, and a mother who never dreamed big and got pregnant at a young age; back when both of his parents thought it will just magically work out.
Playing with you after you returned from school (the same place he was afraid of going to) - made his entire day if not even a week.
But when it became obvious that it's time to separate to pursue higher education and other adult life milestones - Vlad hoped you two will meet again. And he hoped it will be as soon as humanly possible.
So instead of going to his local college like his parents told him to, he decided to spend a year to make enough money so he could find you and get accepted to your college. There was no way in hell Vlad would accept failure, so he went all way in just to achieve his goal.
"H-hi, [name]~ Wow, I didn't expect that w-we will meet again l-like that ha-ha~"
Little did he know, getting accepted to the same college as you - wouldn't be as hard as keeping your attention at him. After all - achieving something practical like saving up money and going to a specific college isn't as hard as forcing someone to like you.
"People are not toys..." - is what your best friend kept telling himself time and time again when he felt possessive over you. "I'm not the only person in the world. I shouldn't be so selfish and just let her choose someone she actually likes..."
Summary: Following a dog into the woods, you find a cave with a shy spider.
Reader x Nephila (Drider Dandere Mom)
Author's Note: My first attempt at a Dandere!! Since there are no other characters in the story, I made Nephila shy in the beginning to replicate the general shyness of the character type. Let me know what you guys think! <3

A dog barks outside your house. None of your neighbors owns dogs, so you go investigate. Sure enough, looking in your backyard, there's a big black dog near the edge of the woods. You try to talk to it, but instead, they just walk into the trees. You follow the dog, worrying about their safety.
The dog walks between trees, showing no signs of stopping. You trail them, calling out to them, but they still don't pay attention. It gets further and further ahead, and you lose sight of it. You continue walking, hoping to catch sight of them.
Meanwhile, the scenery around you changes, and the trees have more distance between them. Some of the trees have spider webs covering their branches. The earth below you lacks greenery, leaving the dirt exposed.
There's a soft patter of raindrops hitting the ground and leaves. The sky above you doesn't look too dark, so it shouldn't rain that hard.
The ground ahead of you steeply drops down, leading to an opening in the ground. The webs here are thicker, emerging from the opening, covering the ground, and suffocating nearby trees.
The complexity and effort of the web distract you, and your feet fall out beneath you. You roll down the incline, occasionally hitting tree roots, and land on the webs on the ground.
The webs stick to your clothes and skin. They are stickier and stronger than every other web you’ve seen. You try to pull out of it, and you manage to loosen some strands. However, you are still very much stuck.
“My webs have caught a human.” You hear a feminine voice coming from the cave beside you. Looking in the direction of the voice, you see thin giant spider legs; shadows block the rest of the creature.
Slowly, the legs creep towards you, and more of the creature is revealed. The legs glow a dark blue color in the light. Looking up more, the rest of the body follows the same color until it meets a pale white with blue undertones. Continuing to look up, you see that she has a human body. Her long, blue-black hair covers a good portion of their upper body.
Meeting their all black eyes, you are fearful of what will happen next. They continue to approach you, stopping right in front of you, towering over you. Your body is frozen in fear, and you don’t dare to say anything.
She reaches down to the webs around you and undoes them. It takes some time for them to undo them, and the rain continues to sprinkle on you. No words are said between the two of you. You are too scared, and they are just silent.
Once you feel all of the webs around you are undone, the window of escape closes. The struggle against the webs has weakened your body. You get up as fast as you can, planning on bolting for the woods.
Not considering the incline you have to go up, you easily exhaust yourself. The earth below you is wet with mud, which causes you to slip, and you fall back. You expect to have your back met with the hard, wet ground, but the creature catches you.
She lifts you into the air, and you realize how tall she is. You guess that she is easily over ten feet tall. She turns, taking you towards the cave. You struggle against her, pleading for them to let you go.
“Please, I’m sorry, let me go. I won’t bother you ever again. You will never see me again.”
Your struggles make no effort against her. It doesn’t even seem to bother her. She remains silent as she walks you through the winding tunnels of the cave. Some of them are covered in webs, others are empty. It is hard for you to tell where things are; the darkness of the cave is too dark for you to see. The webs are easier to see, the white against the gray and brown provides a great contrast.
The creature goes through another opening; this time, it is a wide-open room. Light from an opening in the ceiling provides you with more context for what is in the room. It is mainly taken up by what you guess is their nest, in the center of the room. All of the webs point towards it. Some silk walls are created on the sides, providing more protection.
Despite your wishes, she goes to the center of the room, setting you down in the one spot that isn’t thick with webs. You want to make a run for it, but the webs that surround you make you stay still. She’s upside down in the center of the nest, weaving her silk threads into a thin rope.
She seems happy with her work. She leaves the nest, coming back to you. She circles you, wrapping you in silk. This time, it’s not sticky. It feels like you are covered in a silk sheet. You protest against the wrapping, but she is faster than you. Once it covers your upper body from the shoulders down, she takes you with her to the nest.
“Please, don't hurt me. I haven't done anything wrong.” You plead with her. Spiders wrap their prey, and you worry you are next. She still doesn't say anything to you. She attaches you to the rope and finishes wrapping your lower body. The weight of the situation sinks in, and you start crying, pleading with her more. She walks to the center of the room, admiring her work. Now that she is done, she seems to notice that you are very upset.
“No need to be so upset. Everything will be fine.” She tells you with a soft voice. She stands there for a moment before turning and walking to the exit.
“Wait! Please, wait. Who are you?” You are glad they have spoken to you again. It feels so eerie that they have been so silent. They pause in the opening, turning their head to the side.
“My name is Nephila.” She continues, walking out of the room. You don't see Nephila for hours after that; you hang in the silk sack, mildly uncomfortable because of the position you have been forced to stay in.
The room is bright now, and the sun shines through the opening in the cave. Webs cover it, but the light remains strong, hitting all the corners of the room. You still haven't seen or heard Nephila since she put you up here. Your muscles crave the room to stretch, the silk limiting your movements. You consider calling out to Nephila, but back out in the end. At least you can see the room better now. You don’t know how long you have spent in the webs, but you are guessing it’s about a day now.
You look around the room again, in hopes of seeing any changes. The webbed walls that make up the nest limit your vision to what is in front of you. Everything looks the same; white webs cover almost every surface. Your muscles ache more, distracting you from your thoughts. You attempt to move around again, trying to relieve the pain in any way.
“Are you doing okay?” You hear Nephila’s voice coming from the tunnel. You see her outline, but she is far enough back that you don’t see any details.
You are unsure if you should be honest or not, but the aching convinces you to tell her.
“It hurts to stay like this.” You admit, hoping she’ll free you.
She emerges from the tunnel and joins you in the nest. You feel relief when you feel her lift you up, and see her work on undoing the rope that connects to the ceiling. Once you are removed from the ceiling, she carries you down to the ground, setting you in the center like before.
She goes back to the nest, weaving more silk on the bottom of the nest. You watch her connect the two walls and add a rim to the front. You try to figure out what she is doing, but the only ideas that come to mind are that she plans to keep you there. You are happy to have more room, but nervous about what this means for you. Why would she do this if she just plans to eat you?
The nest now feels like a loft; the webs aren’t sticky like before. The rim Nephila added keeps you from getting out; the height alone stops you from doing that. You wonder what she is doing. Ever since she freed and dropped you off in here, it’s been quiet. Your stomach rumbles, and you feel thirsty. But you don’t complain, it’s better than being stuck like you were the night before.
The lighting in the cave is darker now. Soon, the sun will be down, and you won’t be able to see anything. The sheet of silk bounces slightly as you walk around the nest. The area is still big enough for Nephila to be in there comfortably.
The slight smell of smoke makes you pay attention to your surroundings. Looking outside of the nest, you don't see any hazy air. Nephila stands in the opening of the room.
“You heard me walking?” she asks you with a soft voice. There's something in her hands, but it's hard to tell what it is.
“No, I just smelled smoke.” You say, barely being able to look over the silk. You wonder if she is bringing you some food.
“Back up, sweetie, I'm coming in.” She continues walking towards the nest. You follow her directions without hesitation.
The nest is full with her in there. Her mobility is very restricted; fast movements would be difficult. She sets down a wooden tray with some meat on it in front of you.
“I know humans like their food cooked.” She watches you looking at the tray. Bits of the meat are charred, but you ignore that. Food is food right now. You will accept anything she gives you.
“Thank you.” You eat the food, trying your best to seem happy with it.
As you finish the food, you and Nephila continue to sit in silence. She continues to watch you after you are all done, which makes you feel unsure about what to do. Nephila takes the tray, leaving you with no more words.
The night air hits your bones, making you shiver. The sack you were in yesterday must have protected you from it. You don't miss being in it. You huddle in one of the back corners of the nest. It's slightly warmer, and you are thankful for all of it.
The surface below you moves slightly. You don't think much of it, pushing yourself closer to the wall. Arms pick you up and pull you towards them.
“Sweetie, did you get cold last night?”
You look at Nephila, remembering all that has happened in the past couple of days.
“Yeah, it was a bit cold last night.” Nephila holds you to herself, using her back legs to move silk to both of you. She wraps you in non-sticky silk, creating a strap over her shoulder to carry you.
You feel her legs move as she exits the nest and room. The lightning gets darker as she walks through the tunnels. Your whole body feels exhausted from the cold night, so you don't protest. Her somewhat warm body comforts you more than it should.
Nephila talks to you, but you can't understand it. You are too relaxed to be able to focus. Your body just craves sleep, so you indulge.
The smell of smoke wakes you up. It's stronger than it was before. You are still in the wrap that Nephila made to carry you. You move around, wanting to get fresh air.
“Oh, someone must be awake. Are you hungry, sweetie?” She pulls the wrap from her skin, looking down at you.
“I am hungry, could you please let me out?” You move around a bit more, wanting to stretch.
“Okay, baby, I'll let you out. Food is done for you.” She pulls the wrap down, exposing you to the cooler air. She sets you down on the ground, right next to her.
The ground around you is bare, almost no webs in sight. In front of you is a fire, now reduced to coals. The air around you is still slightly cool, the coals providing little heat. She gives you a tray again, this time, the meat looks less charred.
“Thank you.” You tell her again, digging into the food. She watches you eat again, and you wish that the silence wasn't so loud.
“So, why are you keeping me with you? I thought I would be your dinner.” You take a bite of the meat.
“I guess I'm a bit lonely. I couldn't leave you out there, you are just a kid.” She tells you, still watching you.
“Umm, I know I may look pretty small compared to you, but I'm not a child.”
“Oh, sweetie, you definitely are a child. I carried you around the cave all day in the wrap. You fell asleep as soon as I had you in there.” That definitely makes you look childish.
“I was cold all night. So I didn't get much sleep.” You say, trying to defend yourself.
“You were cold all night?” She asks you, a concerned look on her face.
“Yeah, caves can be cold for humans. It's not like I was going to freeze to death. It was just uncomfortable.” You look at her, her long hair covers her face as she looks at the coals.
“I am sorry that I didn't understand that. You will never be cold like that again.” Her voice is shaky and soft.
You wonder what this means for you. Will she find a new spot to keep you in? Or make you something for the nest?
You finish your food, giving Nephila the tray back.
“It's okay, it's really not that bad. I still have all of my fingers, don't I?” You look at all your fingers, waving your hands around, showing her.
“You could have lost your fingers?” She says with even more of a shaky voice.
“I don't think so, it wasn't cold enough. Humans can lose fingers if they are too cold for too long. The cave isn't cold enough for that, though.” You try to reassure her, wishing she understood more.
“Come back to Mama, I'll take care of you better from now on.” She doesn't even give you a choice, picking you up and placing you in the wrap.
“Did you just call yourself Mama?” Moving the silk to look at her.
“I'll be taking care of you, so it's only fitting that you call me that.” You ignore her statements.
You feel her moving around. You want to see where she is going, but it's hard to peek out of the wrap. It squeezes you tight, just enough to limit your movement.
“Where are we going?” You don't want to go back to the nest. You don't know how long you will be left there.
“We are going back to the nest, sweetie. I have to make something for you, don’t worry, I’ll still be with you.” You feel her turn, and light shines through the wrap.
You feel her arms hold against you as she walks upside down and walks up the ridge of the nest. The webs stretch as she walks in the nest, making it feel like a trampoline. Her arms let go of you, and the wrap is opened. She lets you go into the nest, letting you stretch out.
“I’ll just be below the nest. Mama is going to make you some things.” She pats you on the head, leaving you in the nest.
Watching her below you, you see that she lays out a grid system, floating in the air. She then uses her back legs to pull the silk along a part of the grid, making a rectangular shape.
“Are you making a blanket?” The size of it looks big enough to cover two of you comfortably. You really hope that it is a blanket. You don’t know what else it could be.
“Is that what humans call it? You are so smart! We make it for our young. You must can’t till it’s done. Don’t worry, sweetie, it will be done soon.” She layers the blanket, pulling the silk back and forth.
“Most humans use them, not only the young. They are comfortable things to have.” You try to explain to her. She should know that you are an adult.
“Aw, you humans are so cute. You will look so cute wrapped up in it!” She beams at you.
She continues finishing the blanket for you. Once it’s as thick as she likes, she removes it from the grid, snipping the extra lines away. She brings it up to you, encouraging you to lie down while she covers you in it. It feels really light, but it keeps the heat in. The silk doesn’t stick to you, so sure must have used the special silk.
“How do you make the silk not sticky?” You ask genuinely curious.
“It’s just something I can do, it’s pretty easy. Mama has to go now. I have a couple more things to do for you. Just call out if you need Mama.” She pats you on the head again, leaving the nest and going through the tunnels.
It’s dark in the cave now. The soft moonlight shines through the webs on top. You still haven’t seen Nephila since she gave you the blanket. You look outside the nest and don’t see her there.
The light darkens in the cave, and you look at the hole in the ceiling. You see shadows moving around. The webs buckle underneath the weight of a creature. The creature begins to panic as the webs stick to its feet. The webs buckle more, and the animal makes angry noises.
“Nephila?” You say quietly, not wanting the creature to know you see it.
The animal struggles more, trying to pull themselves from the webs. Some of the webs tear from the creature’s panicked movements and weight.
“Nephila?!” You say louder this time.
The webs break from the weight of the animal, and they fall into the room. Light shines on them, showing you a big brown creature.
“Nephila? We've got a problem here!” You shout now.
The animal runs around the room, getting caught in the webs. They pull themselves from some parts, others they don’t. The animal roars in anger, tearing through more webs with their claws. The animal, a bear, you figure, tangles itself in more webs.
You don’t even see Nephila enter the room. One second, it’s just the bear; the other, Nephila is on top of it, biting it with her fangs.
You look away, horrified by what you are seeing. The bear still roars, but not as loudly now. You hear the struggle of them fighting against each other. You cover your ears, not wanting to listen to the fight.
Regardless of being held captive by Nephila, you still don’t wish her any harm. Tears involuntarily run down your face as you continue to hear the bear struggle less and less. More rustling can be heard, but you don’t know what it’s from.
Moments pass by, and the noise quiets down. The webs below you buckle under weight, arms pull you up from the corner of the nest.
“Oh, sweetie, it’s all gone now. Nothing will hurt you. Everything is okay.” You hear Nephila say as she squeezes you against herself.
“Did the bear hurt you?” You ask Nephila, pushing yourself away from her so you can see her.
“Oh, no, Mama handled it, sweetie. He's gone now, he won't ever bother you.” She pulls you towards her, putting the wrap under you. She still holds you, like the wrap was never there.
Although you don't wish to feel comfort in her affection, you soak it up, crying in her arms. She hushes you, swaying gently for a few moments.
“Sweetie, we are going to stay in a different part of the cave tonight. Don't peek out, there is no reason you need to see what happened.” You feel her pull the blanket to her.
“Where are we going to stay?” Nephila walks to the edge of the nest, holding you as he goes upside down.
“Just a room like this. I will have to build another nest for you later. For now, you can sleep like this.” She walks down more tunnels, and you are still unsure where you are.
She eventually stops and settles in a place. You feel Nephila move around more. She wraps the blanket around your body for extra warmth. She hums to you, the warmth and hum soothing your emotions.
The light in the cave isn’t as dark as you remember. The light shines from all over, making you squint your eyes. You notice that Nephila doesn’t have you in the wrap anymore. You are still in it, but she is gone. She must have taken it off while you were sleeping. You look around, trying to find her.
She has yet to make an appearance, despite you waiting for her presence. You wander closer towards the light, curious if she is nearby. The light makes your eyes tear up. It’s so strong, and you haven’t been exposed to it in a while.
You are quick to find an exit from the cave. This one is different; there are no webs on the ground. You feel like you have the chance now, you can leave. You feel bad because Nephila is obviously lonely, but you know that you can’t just live like this.
Taking steps out of the opening, trees are everywhere. They cover the floor around the cave, making it hard for you to see your surroundings. You think about the chances of Nephila dragging you back to her, and it motivates you to move forward.
You analyze your surroundings each second you are out of the cave, no Nephila and no webs, all good signs. The forest floor is wet on your feet, but you don’t care. You want to get back home. The silence of the woods concerns you. There hasn’t been any noise from them since you left the cave. You look behind you, worried that Nephila is behind you. There is nothing but trees and more trees. You can’t see the cave open anymore.
Continuing to wander the forest until you feel you need a break, you feel like nothing has changed. The rising sun provides more light for you, but the scenery stays the same. The fallen wooden log you sit on helps you rest your aching feet. You take deep breaths, trying to relax from the previous days.
“Dear human? Are you around here?” You hear Nephila’s voice in the distance.
Panicking, you run trying to get further from her. The branches you step on snap and make your feet bleed as you run away. This noise only encourages Nephila’s pursuit of you, marking your location for her.
“Oh, sweetie, I know yesterday was scary, and I left you this morning. It’s all my fault, I’ll make sure to do better next time. Please don’t go any further.” She calls out to you, going around trees and gaining on you.
“Please, sweetie, we are not in my territory. We must leave as soon as possible.” You hear her, right behind you. You run more, not even considering what she means.
Your feet throb from the cuts of the branches you have hit, causing you to slow down involuntarily. You almost feel like you can feel her legs hit the ground, feeling how close she is.
“It’s okay, sweetie. Please just stop running. We really shouldn’t be here. We have to leave now.” You hear her panicked voice. The trees that you jet around slow her down, but they also cause you to work more.
As you run through two trees with a small gap between them, two arms pull you back. You struggle against their hold, trying to get away.
“Sweetie, it really is okay. Please don’t fight, I don’t want to have to bite you.” Nephila tells you. You fight against her harder, not wanting to experience her biting you. She pulls your arm away from your body, up towards her.
“I’m sorry, I have no other choice. We really need to leave before the other one gets here.” She covers your eyes, pulling your arm up more.
You feel dull throbbing in your arm, and a chill spreads across your body. Your struggles slow as the chill spreads, and your thoughts become more muffled and confused. Nephila moves you in a more comfortable position, heading back towards the cave.
“Everything will be fine, sweetie, just relax and Mama will take care of everything.” You hear her say, but it doesn’t feel real. Everything feels slowed and dull. You stop fighting against the venom. It became too much work for you.
Soon, it feels like too much work to keep your eyes open. You close them in hopes of feeling better. But you start to fade in and out of consciousness. One second you hear Nephila talking, the other you don’t. One second, you see the light against your eyelids; the other, it’s dark.
