Writing my Look Outside oc, Dahlia, as if she was actually implemented into the game. Including character introductions, interactions, and even an exclusive side quest! Originally, I wanted to make most of these interactions into comics, but I fear that I’ll never have enough time/energy in the day to do that so writing them out is the next best thing. Maybe I’ll still turn some of my ideas into comics, who knows.
POV: Reader/Sam (you are Sam, like in the game)
Chapter 1: First Meeting
Summary: There are 2 ways you can meet Dahlia while playing the game. Either by backtracking through a previous area that you have already explored, or by a knock on your front door.
Encounter 1: Backtracking
You once again walk through Vincent’s apartment, heading straight to the projector room now that you have the negative disc in hand. Your plan is to use it to imprint a negative image onto the photo paper that Lyle gave you, but just as you’re about to open the door you hesitate. You could’ve sworn you heard something on the other side, it was the sickening sound of muffled, wet squelching. You thought you already fought most of the former party-goers in the apartment. Had something else wandered in?
You prepared yourself as you opened the door. The room smelled of strong scented herbs: lavender, mint, lemon grass, with just an underlying stench of rot. Sure enough, there was a figure crouched over the dead body of a monster you had previously fought. They were dressed in robes that were strangely reminiscent of old doctors and scientists, a handheld lantern and an opened suitcase sitting on the floor beside them. They haven’t seemed to have noticed you as they use a scalpel to slice apart the body’s abdomen with expert precision, mumbling to themself.
>(Approach.)
(Back away.)
(Attack!)
You carefully approach them to the point where you could begin to make out what they were saying. Their voice was low and hoarse as they whispered to themself.
???: Cause of death: Blunt force trauma to the head. Time of death: roughly 7:15 am, Thursday. External mutations: minimal. Internal mutations: minimal.
They still haven’t noticed you.
>(Tap their shoulder.)
(Back away.)
(Attack!)
You gently tap their shoulder to get their attention, and as they snap their head to look at you over their shoulder you see that their face is covered by a bird-like mask. They grab their things before standing up in front of you, holding the lantern close to their face. Their eyes scan you for a moment before they speak up.
???: You appear to be unchanged, that’s good. My name is Dahlia Chewey. It’s a pleasure to meet another lucid individual.
>I’m Sam.
I haven’t seen you before.
What are you doing?
Dahlia: Nice to meet you, Sam. Do you live in this apartment complex?
Yes.
>Why do you ask?
No.
Dahlia: I’m looking for my little brother, Kale. Although, I got side-tracked by all of the different mutations within this building. He moved in a few months ago on the first floor.
I haven’t seen him.
>Floor 1 is a maze.
What does he look like?
Which room is he in?
Dahlia: I’m aware, I tried to navigate the floor myself, but I kept getting lost. Made worse by the giant monster roaming the halls.
>I could help you.
I’ll let you know if I find him.
Good luck in finding him.
Dahlia: Really? How so?
>We could team up and look for him.
Nevermind.
Dahlia: Team up? Do you know how to navigate around Floor 1?
>Yes.
Kind of.
Not really.
No.
Dahlia: Alright, it’s a deal then. His room number is 115 - by the way - I have a spare key to his door.
A thin woman covered in odd clothes stands at the door. She carries a suitcase in one hand, the other holding a lantern close to her head so that you can see the bird-like mask covering her face. She seems to stare at you expectantly.
What will you do?
>Hello
Who are you?
Please leave.
(Say nothing.)
(Leave eyehole.)
???: Greetings, my name is Dahlia. I can heal any injuries and ailments you have for a small fee.
Her voice is low and hoarse as she speaks, like she has a sore throat.
Will you open the door?
>Yes.
No.
You slowly open the door and are quickly hit with an overwhelming wave of strong herbal smells and the underlying stench of rot. Dahlia’s eyes seem to scan you for a moment.
Dahlia: Thank you for opening the door, I know I may seem strange, but I just want to help.
You ask her about if she knows what’s going on outside, and she explains that she experienced the phenomenon first hand and isn’t originally from this apartment complex. She’s lucky that she’s still lucid.
After your small conversation you step aside and let her get to work. You can’t exactly tell if she’s a licensed doctor, but she seems to know her way around the medical equipment in her suitcase well enough to not question it. That is until she pulls out a leech in order suck out the toxins in your bloodstream. You hesitate for a moment before reluctantly holding out your arm. She takes a moment to find a sizable vein before attaching the leech to it, you couldn’t help but shiver at the sensation of the slug-like creature engorging itself on your blood.
Only after her treatment does she ask for $80 in payment.
>Pay.
Don’t pay.
You give her the money and thank her for her service. She’s just about to leave your apartment when she suddenly stops in the doorway and turns around to face you.
Dahlia: By the way, you haven’t seen my little brother, have you? He moved into this complex a few months ago, his name is Kale.
I haven’t seen him.
What does he look like?
>What’s his room number?
Dahlia: His room number is 115. I have a spare key to his door.
>Floor 1 is a maze.
Floor 1 is dangerous.
I’m sorry, I can’t help you.
