French Biriyani (2020) Directed by Pannaga Bharana I am a fan of actor @danishsait's work — discovered him because of his one minute lockdown videos and then realised that I'd come across his prank calls before itself, I didn't know it was him. I find his videos very funny and I watched his first feature film "Humble Politician Nograj" recently. I liked that movie and thought it was well done. So I was interested in watching this movie — it was supposed to get a theatrical release but now landed on Amazon Prime a few days ago. I watched it and while it was well made, I liked "Humble Politician Nograj" better. The story here is about a Frenchman, Simon (Sal Yusuf) landing in Bangalore, a case which gangsters are after and an auto driver Asgar (Danish Sait), who gets involved in this. The production value was good, I thought the cinematography by Karthik Palani (DOP for the recently released "Penguin") was great and was one of the best aspects of the movie. The story was a standard MacGuffin type plot and it was engaging enough, but I didn't think it was anything very new or innovative, and was sort of predictable. For me, Danish Sait's presence was what got me interested in the movie, but I felt he was underused in it. His character wasn't that interesting, and I felt he didn't have much to do. One odd thing I also noticed about the ADR in this movie — there were several parts where the dialogue sounded unnatural, some even for Danish Sait's voice. Every film uses dubbing to some extent I suppose, but here there were some parts where I felt it was distracting. Overall I thought the movie was worth watching but I ended up wishing I would have liked it more than I did.
