so I don’t feel good, am half asleep, and have had a few beers (ew!), but am I correct in assuming if the bible did not exist as a physical book, religion would have evolved with society and we wouldnt have the problems we have now?
I mean the bible was used to describe a world humans knew next to nothing about. someone wrote that down, and rather than editing it every few thousand years when something else made sense or (if you’d rather) when God gave New information, people left it mostly unchanged. an oral religion would have been constantly evolving to address social issues, while a book older than dirt just gives examples that we now can't even begin to fathom as actual things that might have happened. (speaking of daily issues like stoning people not the things people clearly believe, like virgin mothers and dead people coming back to life)
not that I know anything about the bible. I never read one but I’ve heard it’s pretty out there.
