Ambling through the churchyard,
This morning, going home,
I sensed a nearby presence ...
I was not ... it seemed ... alone ...
~
Turning, I saw nothing ...
Yet ...I knew something was there ...
I was being scrutinised ...
And soon became aware
~
Of a cat upon a headstone,
In the dappled morning shade;
I slowly walked towards it ...
The cat seemed unafraid ...
~
At which an old-time song returned!
Why? Don't really know.
But some of you will recognise it -
This is how it goes ...
~
"I tort I taw a puddy tat,
A cweepin' up on me:
I did! I taw a paddy tat,
As plain as it could be!"
~
From mystery in the churchyard,
Whilst walking home today,
To laughter at this daft old song
Once sung by Danny Kay.
~
Back home, I googled 'Lyrics',
And soon could sing along
To this once-forgotten, now-remembered
Childhood cartoon song ...
~
"I tort I taw a puddy tat,
A cweepin' up on me:
I did! I taw a paddy tat,
As plain as it could be!"
~
Interesting how some songs become more embedded than others ....
